The Salem Roadhouse Cafe

The Salem Roadhouse Cafe Shh! The Roadhouse only opens to the public on the second Saturday evening of the month. You never know. Why does it take time to find the Roadhouse? Ask around.

The Roadhouse may be the best-kept secret in Northern New Jersey — the area’s best jazz, rock, and even the occasional folkie in an intimate coffeehouse venue. It’s where the area’s musicians go to hear other musicians, and you might find yourself sitting next to a famous jazz drummer or a vocalist from Australia. Musicians love the audience that takes the time to find the Roadhouse, and when musi

cians love their audience, they play their hearts out. We’ve cleverly hidden it in a church basement, where audience and musicians are within touching distance of each other. The acoustics are great. The Roadhouse serves real coffee and tea — it’s a coffeehouse, not a bar, after all. Hot and cold snacks and desserts are included in the admission. There’s art, too, because art and music go together. You can sip your coffee while perusing original works available for purchase at the Roadhouse Fine Arts Gallery. Works change with each opening. You might be surprised to find who knows about the Roadhouse. But you didn’t hear it from us…
As a fun, creative, community outreach mission of the church, show proceeds always benefit local NJ charities. Admission includes the show, snacks, beverages and desserts, plus the art gallery. Union 34TV records the shows for broadcast — so check out past shows on cable TV34. See the Roadhouse on Union TV Channel 34’s “Union After Dark” nightly music series.

June – a month known for strawberries, blooming roses, warm weather, sunny skies and Flag Day. June also includes the Summer Solstice, when the day and night are equal in length. Oh, and there’s Father’s Day! Hear that mom? Simply Longer days and more fun.

At the Salem Roadhouse Café, on Saturday, June 13th, the Roadhouse Posse has again rounded up the unusual suspects and will present for your witness and ultimate verdict a “note-orious” group of musicians who are known as the “WANTED IN APRIL” gang.

Remember them from last April? We wanted them again

It was no easy task. Gathering disparate (Desperate?) musicians together is like trying to herd cats. Ever try it? A year after their last trial at the Roadhouse, where they were let go under their own cognizance; their individual musical shenanigans since have brought them to notorious scrutiny, and we had to round them up again. The Roadhouse Posse has done it! These cats can really run, but a promise of food brought them to us.
On June 13th, at 8PM, the WANTED gang will be heard and tried again. This time they have no defense. All they will have are their reputations and performance abilities to bring to you, the jury, who will decide their fate as to whether or not they are acceptable to musical society or should be strictly kept under lock and key at the Salem Roadhouse Café, never to be unleashed upon unsuspecting audiences again, unless under supervision.

Our first 20265 show will be on Saturday, March 14 at 7:40PM, featuring pure jazz with the MONROE QUINN JAZZ TRIO
and an opening with PRAISING PILLARS children's choir.

Formed from a Christian HomeSchool group, the Praising Pillars is a group of young people with a love and gift of song in their hearts.
In searching for a director, providence directed them to a teacher/director who was a former professional director at a church in Brooklyn.

The connection was magic. Next they needed a place to practice and rehearse. Again, providence led them to Townley Presbyterian Church which has since provided ample space and time to rehearse their work after school each week.

The group has grown from an initial 9 kids to about 25 at present.
They have sung at the 2024 “Sounds Of The Season” Christmas show at Townley Church to rave reviews
and have performed at two nursing homes and a senior living community.

Aside from the music, the children are making close friends and are learning important life lessons from the talented and dedicated director, Samantha.
Samantha is teaching them singing and vocal skills, along with life skills about love and faith.

Quoting one 12 year old from the group, “It’s so nice to be part of this. We’re learning about music and how our maker gave us this gift. It’s so alive!”
A 7 year old stated, “I love the choir so much!” His mom says he sings in the car and teaches her the songs they are learning.

You can hear this amazing young people's group as the opening act of the March 14 show featuring Jazz with the Monroe Quinn Trio at the Salem Roadhouse Café.

As always, the Salem Roadhouse Cafe offers a safe, clean, friendly and classy music and art environment to the community at affordable prices

March 14 marks the beginning of the 18th year of operation at the Salem Roadhouse Cafe, bringing music, art, friendship and charity to the community.

Our opening show will feature the incredible jazz by the MONROE QUINN TRIO. An opening act by the PILLARS OF PRAISE youth choir will round things out.

If you like pure, unadulterated jazz instrumentals presented in a classy, intimate nightclub atmosphere, this show is for you! The Monroe Quinn Trio has delighted audiences in the tri-state area with performances of music ranging from the American Songbook to jazz arrangements of pop classics and original works. Monroe is joined by bassist Jose Rodriguez and Michael Advensky on drums.

The PILLARS OF PRAISE children’s choir is a group of dedicated children under professional direction who harmonize and sing in multi-part harmony. This group performed at the 2024 Townley Church/Roadhouse Café “SOUNDS OF THE SEASON” Christmas show to rave reviews and a standing ovation.

As always, the Salem Roadhouse Café music is live, intimate, up front, and personal. All ages are welcome
