It’s hard to believe we are approaching two years since we lost our beautiful friend Katelyn “Kiki” Kelly.
For those who knew Kiki, you already know that describing her in a few sentences is nearly impossible. She had a huge heart, huge energy, and an incredible ability to make the people around her feel cared for. She loved hospitality. She loved adventure. She loved animals. She loved her family, her friends, and her dogs fiercely. She was a nurturer, a friend, a coworker who became family, and one of those people whose presence simply made a room brighter.
And then, far too young and far too suddenly, Kiki was taken from all of us by a brain aneurysm.
That is why on September 12 in New Buffalo, we are coming together for the 2nd Annual Kilometers for Kiki 5K Fun Run/Walk, benefiting The Bee Foundation for Brain Aneurysm Prevention.
This isn't just about running a 5K.
It's about Kiki. And it's about the next Kiki.
The Bee Foundation reports that 1 in 50 people in the United States has a brain aneurysm, and nearly 50% of ruptures are fatal. Research and awareness are critical to changing those numbers.
Kiki's family and friends know firsthand how quickly a brain aneurysm can turn a completely ordinary day into a loss that changes a family forever. We cannot change what happened to our girl, but we can make her story mean something for someone else's future.
Every registration, donation, sponsorship and raffle ticket helps support research, awareness, advocacy and support so that someday another person might get an earlier diagnosis, another family might recognize the warning signs, another treatment might exist, and another life might be saved. Funds raised through The Bee Foundation's race series support research, awareness and services for people affected by brain aneurysms.
And we need your help to make this year's event BIG.
