GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
Mamasota’s started in November of 2011 and closed in September of 2016. The restaurant brought together beautiful people and delicious food and some moving music. Taste buds were delighted and hearts were warmed. Every kindness shown to Mamasota’s is still cherished. It’s all chiseled in stone.

Looking at these old pictures these past 10 days has reminded us of the depth of the experience that we had together.

But everything with a beginning has an end. Now life goes on in this beautiful little city named Tulsa, where you always see people again.

We look forward to seeing you.

Today, a charming Mexican Restaurant named El Paso stands were Mamasota’s once did. We suggest you give El Paso a try.

REMEMBERING MAMASOTA’S SPECIALS
There was just something extraordinary about Mamasota’s Specials: Fish Tacos. Street Tacos and Beer. Mexi-Burgers. Chimichangas. Nachos. Watermelon Aqua Fresca. Chicken Flautas with Avocado Ranch. Mamasota’s Margaritas. And much more.

FISH TACO FRIDAY
Every Friday I go to the best Mexican restaurant in town,
So Chef Navas can turn my frown upside down
The fish tacos are delicious with their cabbage and lime
I wish I could eat these magical tropical wonders all of the time
Mamasota's food is fresh and cooked to order,
Their fish tacos are the best you can consume north of the border

REMEMBERING MAMASOTA’S FOOD
Chef Luis Navas grew up in Guatemala City. All of Mamasota’s food came from Chef’s own recipes. And Mamasota’s owed some debt to the taqueria’s of San Francisco, birthplace of the modern day burrito. Mamasota’s food was all fresh and made from scratch with a generous use of produce.

Chef had a talent for a range of foods but his first love was seafood. And his soups also stood out. His avocado ranch dressing has been widely imitated. His fish tacos have been widely imitated. We had customers come in just for our Watermelon Agua Fresca. Christmas hasn’t been the same without our Christmas tamales. People swore by his flautas and chimichangas and burritos.

We called our style Farm Fresh Mexican Food. Chef was a natural.

REMEMBERING MAMASOTA’S FLAMENCO
Music became integral to Mamasota’s. We listened to Banda, Reggaeton and Bachatas most times. We brought in local music legends for special events playing jazz, rock, country and blue grass. But Mamasota’s carved out its own niche with live Classic Flamenco Music and Dance.

MAMASOTA’S KNEW HOW TO PARTY
Mamasota’s could go from a slow Monday to Saturday night with the dining room and patio filled to the brim. We catered big bustling events like a wedding at Harwelden mansion. We had the Tulsa City Council over for lunch. We had an election watch party for a local politician. We entertained the Small Business, Association, we enjoyed birthday parties. We had big turnouts for Flamenco Music and Dance. We fed hundreds of hard working folks when we catered business promotions and medical offices. We feted entire corporate offices. And Fish Taco Friday was always a party in itself! Then there was Pokemon. We loved Pokemon. The list goes on, but your patience does not so I’ll just say that Mamaosota’s knew how to party.

REMEMBERING MAMASOTA’S REGULARS
Regulars are customers that return again and again. They are the life blood of a small restaurant. Each have their own reason for being a regular. Some stepped in and supported us at just the right time. Others showed up over months and years. Every one of our regulars has a place in our hearts. Too many to name or picture all here. Remembering Lori, Darien and Bill, Anna, Toby and Family (Picture Top), Richard (Picture from left to right), Chris and Kids, Joshua.

REMEMBERING MAMASOTA’S
In the middle of the Great Recession, September 2011, Ronnie Lowe and Luis Navas incorporated and opened Mamasota’s In & Out. We opened at 41st and Memorial in November of 2011. In May of 2014 we moved to the Farm Shopping Center and opened Mamasota’s Mexican Restaurant & Bar. Mamasota’s closed all operations in September of 2016.

We called our style of food Farm Fresh Mexican Food. We talked about our roots in San Francisco’s Tacquerias. In some following posts we will take a look back at Mamasota’s.

Today, a charming Mexican Restaurant named El Paso stands were Mamasota’s once did in the Farm Shopping Center. We suggest you give El Paso a try!
