Happy Father’s Day!!
Our dad had a stroke at age 46 (‘84). A couple tough years followed, but he opened Wayne's 121 Club (Jan ‘87).
As I-155 was being constructed (‘89) (replacing Rt. 121), and construction workers needing a place for lunch, dad decided to open the kitchen. The menu was small and fresh just like today. He featured his famous sliders and yellow sliders 🍔. He also had a grilled pork chop, breaded pork chop, and a chicken breast sandwich if I remember correctly, and of course, crispy fries 🍟. If you were lucky (or unlucky I suppose), you may have even gotten a signature thumb hole in your bun.
Just like back then, we focus on quality food at a fair price in a clean environment.
It’s no surprise that many pictures of dad at the bar, show him carrying a towel or one draped over his shoulder. Or, maybe a shirt with a couple grease spots. 😂.
“There’s always something to clean”, he used to say.
Happy Father’s Day Dad. We miss you!!
