The Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse (1857) gives it all she's got as a winter storm bears down on the Thumb Region of the Mitten State.
Standing 30 yards out on a frozen Lake Huron, I shot this 15 minute long exposure of the lighthouse in the wind and blowing snow.
Since this is a long exposure, you cannot see the individual snowflakes due to the low light and "motion blur" effect of the time lapse but the falling snow absorbs and reflects the light from the lighthouse tower and grounds and forms almost a "cloud of light". Elsewhere in the shadows, it not bright enough for my film to pick up it's presence as it quickly falls before the camera.
This will always be a top 3 personal favorite of mine. The light and ice formations on the lake were incredible. Experiencing it all… standing out on Frozen Lake Huron in the mid of the night hearing nothing but the wind and the falling snow.
Surreal... definitely Pure Michigan.
A photograph is not just a collection of light but more-so an experience.
Mamiya 7ii, 80mm on 6x7 Kodak Ektar 100 Color Negative Film.
Thanks so much for sharing my experience and have an incredible Thursday!
