When the Activities Council of Thomson started managing the festival (year 6) Kenny Neal was one of the first artists we booked. We went after him on the strength of one of his live shows we saw at Blind Willie's in Atlanta. The music he was touring behind then was a disc called "Big News from Baton Rouge", still a favorite of ours. He was back in year 8 and then we had him back when we celebrated our 25th fest.

RIP John Hammond Jr. Here he is backstage with Chris Smither at McTell Fest 2015. Struck by what a gent he was backstage and when he was onstage, you could tell that he was giving each tune all he had, plus a little more. A great artist who is leaving a strong legacy of country blues performance at its best.
