ATTENTION!!! We have important information regarding recent developments surrounding the Sunday Dance Matinee Cuban Edition event hosted at the 809 Lounge. We feel it’s important to provide some clarity about what has happened. The Sunday Dance Matinee Cuban Edition hosted at 809 Lounge was launched in November 2025 by the hosts Jarryd Randolph, Javi (DJ Mazi), Laura Cristina, and me with the intent to create a space for lovers of Cuban music and dance.
As time passed, certain internal disagreements began to surface. In light of these disagreements, a certain situation heightened the growing tension when Javi (Mazi Ha) became frustrated when Jarryd, Laura Cristina, and I did not agree with several of his unreasonable proposals.
As retaliation, this past Monday, without our knowledge, Javi Mazi from Mazi Entertainment/DJ MAZI created a new Like page for the Sunday Matinee and the May event on social media and renamed it “Cuban Dance Matinee”. He excluded dance instructors Jarryd, Laura, and me as hosts. This event has always been the result of shared effort, time, and dedication from all of us involved.
We apologize for involving everyone in this matter, but we feel it’s important that our event guests, dance students, and friends who support the Cuban dance community ARE AWARE of the reasons and motives behind Mazi’s actions. Jarryd, Robert, and Laura truly appreciate this community and the support you’ve shown for our events and dance classes over the past years. It means everything to us.
We encourage you to be intentional about where you invest your time and energy, and to support spaces that consistently deliver quality, integrity, and respect for the dance community, our DJs, and dance instructors. We are committed to creating experiences that reflect those values. We hope you’ll continue to stand with organizers who put in the work to elevate and grow what we all love. If anyone wants to know specific details about what happened, feel free to contact me privately.
