It’s Belgian Biere Tuesday and tonight’s featured biere is the one with the Golden Dragon on the label - "Gulden Draak" (Dutch for Golden Dragon). With such an imposing symbol that has endured for more than six centuries, comes an equally impressive beer. As the dragon adorns the top of the city of Ghent, Belgium, Gulden Draak has been among the world’s top beers for years. It is a dark tripel, which in itself makes it an exceptional beer, but its complex flavor with notes of caramel, roasted malt and coffee makes it unique. In short, the beer is worthy of its name.
Gulden Draak Classic pours a deep reddish-brown with a lasting cap of foam. The aroma carries caramelized malt, dark fruit, and a touch of spice. Plum, raisin, and brown sugar give way to hints of cocoa and roasted malt. Each sip brings layers of toffee, fig, and dark cherry, rounded by a gentle roast that keeps the sweetness balanced. At 10.5%, Gulden Draak is bold, rich, and beautifully complex.
