What a welcome home for our Eastern Iowa Honor Flight veterans tonight!

After a full day in Washington, D.C., visiting the memorials built in their honor, our veterans returned home to a packed airport filled with family, friends, fellow veterans, and supporters waving flags and cheering them on.

Welcome home, veterans. Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and everything you have given our country. You earned every cheer.

Are you a veteran who has never been on an Honor Flight? You may be eligible for the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight.

Veterans from the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, Reserves, and National Guard are encouraged to apply. You do not have to have served in combat. Veterans who served during wartime or peacetime, overseas or stateside, are eligible to apply. The trip to Washington, D.C. is provided at no cost to the veteran.

Eastern Iowa Honor Flight serves veterans throughout Eastern Iowa, including Tama, Marshall, Poweshiek, Benton, Iowa, Linn, Johnson and surrounding counties. Veterans from outside the primary service area may also apply if they are able to fly from The Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids.

If you or a veteran you know has never taken an Honor Flight and would like more information or help with the application, contact Charlie Betz at the Tama American Legion.

WE MADE THE FINALS!

Our South Tama County community need your help!

The Toledo Transformation project is going head-to-head with Muscatine in the finals of the 2026 People’s Choice All-Star Community Award!

This project will transform the vacant Iowa Juvenile Home campus into a new learning center for South Tama County Middle School — a major investment in our students and the future of the entire Tama-Toledo community.

The Tama American Legion is asking our members, friends and followers to help bring this one home!

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Tama American Legion for our first Fish Fry of the 2026–27 season!

We had a great turnout, including many of our local First Responders. It was an honor to have you with us, and we thank you for your continued service and dedication to our community.

And a big thank you to all of our volunteers who helped make the evening a success. We couldn’t do these Fish Frys without you!

We hope to see everyone again at our next Fish Fry in October!

As we open our 2026–27 Fish Fry Season, we pause to remember the events of this day 25 years ago.

September 11, 2001, is a day we will never forget.

Twenty-five years later, we remember those who lost their lives, those who ran toward danger, and the first responders who gave everything in service to others.

But honoring our first responders shouldn’t be limited to one day in history.

Every day, right here in our own communities, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, law enforcement officers, 911 dispatchers, and emergency management personnel answer the call. Some are career professionals. Many are volunteers. All give their time and energy and make sacrifices most of us never see.

On Friday, September 11, the Tama American Legion would like to say thank you.
