Join us for a new educational series with Adam Bigelow: ADULT ED & BEV
This fun and informative series of classes will be held at Santé - The Wine Bar in Downtown Sylva over the course of 6 Tuesday Evenings from 6-8pm and are offered on a sliding scale of between $140 and $200 per student. There will be Wine service at the classes. Cost of the class does Not include alcohol purchases.
Classes will be limited to only 25 people per session, so make sure to sign up early to secure your seat.
The idea behind a sliding scale is to help more people be able to take the classes by having those who can afford the full price be able to help those who can't. There are also opportunites to fund scholarships to the classes. Contact me for more info about funding a scholarship.
This first class in this new format was a rousing success and we had a lot of fun learing about Organic Gardening.
Up next will be Foraging for Wild Foods and Medicine:
6-Weeks May 26-June 30
The land around us contains many Plants and Fungi that can be gathered and used to help feed ourselves and help keep us and our families healthy and well. We will spend time in the classroom and in the field to learn about the many different edible and medicinal species that you can find and forage from the woods. This course will lean strongly on the ethics and rules of foraging to help ensure future harvests, and on safety and proper identification of forest products.
Class costs on a sliding scale of between $140 and $200 per student, not including wine purchases. Each attendee gets to choose how much they want to pay within that range. To register please send an email to [email protected]
Other Classes in the Adult Ed & Bev series for this year include:
Basics of Organic Gardening
6-Weeks July 21-Aug 25
Starting an organic garden is easy, and fun. Keeping your garden going throughout the years while harvesting abundant, healthy produce can be a little more challenging. This course will help you to have a successful garden experience, from the ground up. We will cover soil ecology, composting and fertility; garden preparation and seed starting; weeds, pests and disease prevention and control; companion planting, the role of flowers and native plants in attracting beneficial insect allies, and much more. Through a combination of classroom instruction and field trips to local Gardens, students will gain knowledge and experience in gardening and be able to use that information to grow a successful organic garden at home.
Native Plant Gardening Through the Seasons
6-Weeks Sept 1-Oct 6
Creating a garden that is beautiful and helps to support wildlife diversity takes time and careful planning and uses plants that are native to the bioregion. Even the most carefully designed native plant garden doesn’t come into full growth for at least three years. This class will follow what to expect from a newly established wildflower garden from seed to fruition with each class session focusing on a different season throughout the years. We will cover how to plant and maintain a garden for beauty and ecological function.
Please share this with anyone who may be interested in joining us for some fun learning and social connectivity!
