Exciting News! 🎶

Tunes By the Tracks – SMV 2025 is back!

Starting Friday, Sept 19 and rolling for six straight Fridays, we’re bringing the music to the heart of the Village – 2nd & East Mountain – thanks to the awesome crew at Outrun Brewing. They’re opening their space, their staff, and their hearts to keep the fire burning.

Here’s when the “Tunes” fire will be burning tap side this fall:

• Sept 19 – Women In Blues – Unveiling the 6th Annual Atlanta Women in Blues, sponsored by the Atlanta Blues Society and curated by Diane Durrett. Honored to host this celebration of powerhouse women blues artists, bringing their hearts, souls, and voices to SMV.

• Sept 26 – Larry Griffith
• Oct 3 – Diane Durrett & Soul Suga'
• Oct 10 – Albert White
• Oct 17 – Cody Matlock
• Oct 24 – Natti Love Joys

🎶 Side notes: Tap Side Particulars

Bringing the music to the heart of the Village - this fall the “Tunes” fire will be burning bright and purposefully tap side rather than track side.

If you joined us for June’s Keep the Fire Burning night, you know the vibe: friends, neighbors, musicians, and community all coming together for an unforgettable evening. We’re ready to do it again this fall - real music, real people, right off Main Street.

The event remains a come rain or come shine gathering (with the exception of lightning or unsafe weather). Music on tap - 7:00 PM -9:00 PM. Bring your camp chair, your dancing shoes (if so inclined), and most of all your heart for village joy and camaraderie.

Outrun Brewing will be in full swing, alongside village restaurants and some of our shops keeping late hours. With a beverage in hand and food options from local Village favorites - or from Outrun’s invited food truck - it all adds up to a perfect evening.

See you soon. Enjoy 🙂🎤👍😎

Dear Tunes Family and Friends,

Here’s a long overdue update on 2025 Tunes. What a twist since yesterday!

2025 came in with its fair share of challenges. Early on, the city lost control of the municipal lot — our longtime home for Tunes By the Tracks— when CSX decided to lease it to a third-party company planning to turn it into paid parking. That decision made it impossible for us to move forward with our original plans for Tunes 2025.

In March, though, we thought we had a way forward.

The big challenge was finding a new space where we could still come together — to share life, build community, and stay connected to Main Street, our artists, and each other. The solution we found wasn’t perfect, but felt right - and we got word to that we were good to move forward.

We planned to move to the newly acquired municipal lawn — a green space that faces Main Street. We’d set up there, roll into the new season, enjoy Tunes as usual, and take in the beautiful view of the village and Main Street. It felt like a fresh start for 2025 and solid option.

The plan was to kick off the season the Friday after Memorial Day and run through the Friday after Juneteenth — four Fridays of music and community to settle into the new space, work out the details, and be full throttle ready for fall.

Delaying wasn’t ideal, but it was necessary. I knew everyone would understand that the shift to a new location with short notice came with details to work out — logistics, power, sound, storage, and more. It wasn’t perfect, but it was needed.

Today’s post was meant to be our "break the silence" update, sharing the new plan and announcing the lineup of musicians excited to return to the Tunes stage — just as we were excited to have them join us in the SMV.

We know now it wasn’t OK keeping everyone in the dark while we worked on a location plan. It’s not that we didn’t want to share — we simply didn’t have a clear solution until recently… or so we thought. Still, that doesn’t make it right. I’m truly sorry, and I’m so grateful for your understanding.

Here’s the heartbreak. Yesterday, we found out — through a social media post — that the city has scheduled another concert series on the same green space, at the same time we hold Tunes By the Tracks. We were surprised and remain confused. Maybe it was just a mix-up, but the reality is, two events can’t happen in the same space at the same time.

Since both events can’t happen in the same space at the same time, I’ve taken the decision to pull the Tunes train onto a side rail for May and June. We’ll step back for now and the invite creativity of others.

We’ll keep the fire going. We’ll use this time to do some maintenance, tune things up, and plan for what’s next. We harbor no bitterness. We do feel a real sadness in stepping away for now, and a deep sense of missing all of you.

But Tunes By the Tracks has always been about more than music. It’s about community, connection, and care — about the artists, the people, and the spirit of Stone Mountain. This town remains a beautiful mix of creativity, diversity, and heart. It’s our own outcropping of a “beloved community” that brings more good to the world than most people know — and definitely more than it gets credit for.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers, and we’ll do the same. We’ll keep the fire going and the whistle blowing as best we can — until we round the bend and see you again next season.

Peace,

Thom

A helpful reminder. Especially important tonight. Use the parking map. Let's be good neighbors and keep the main lot free for our restaurants, pubs, wine bar and shops.

A strong but helpful Parking Reminder 😎 Please keep the Municipal lot free for Restaurants, Pub, Brewery, Wine Bar, & Shops.

The GMC Municipal lot, the Baptist and Methodist Church lots, the Old Rock Gym, Street Parking, Second St near City Hall, spaces near the Depot, behind Truist all solid options 👍

Note: Parking Enforcement plan for Municipal lot at W Mtn & Main is 2 hour limit. Good for shopping and dinning. Not good for Tunes By the Tracks.

CRITIC’S PICK: Women in Blues, Tunes By the Tracks—It’s the fifth annual celebration of local blues women, once again at Tunes by the Tracks. Veteran roots singer/songwriter Diane Durrett organizes this annual show paying tribute to the titular talents and it’s always a highlight of the blues year. This time around is another terrific lineup. Along with Durrett there will be Sandra Hall, Rebekah ‘Rae’ Easley, Liz Melendez, Blue Velvet Atlanta, Melissa Junebug, Fuji Fujimoto, Connie Dubois, and Vanessa Mirando. This should be on every local blues lover’s calendar. — Hal Horowitz
