Foot-tapping tunes and a noteworthy line up of local indie roots, blues & Americana artists "On Tap" every Friday in May, June, September, & October in downtown Stone Mountain Village. Bring a lawn chair and join us as neighbors and friends gather and community grows. Concerts are free "rain or shine".
The leadership of “Tunes By the Tracks” envisions the City of Stone Mountain as thriving, relationally connected, creative, welcoming and a vibrant village where music sparks transformation and the ongoing support of the creative arts - is woven deeply into the fabric of life and well being.
“Tunes By the Tracks” is a means to this end. It is a live original music series for the good of our city, our neighbors, and the local indie roots, blues, and Americana music communities of songwriters, composers, performers, patrons, concert goers and supporters. Many of these folks join together trackside along Stone Mountain’s Main Street on any given “Tunes” Friday to enjoy the music, savor the time with one another, support local artists, and participate in the ongoing wellbeing of our village, neighbors, and region.
“Tunes By the Tracks” provides a platform where friends, neighbors, guests, and others gather around music and song, performance, original music creativity, and a willful Village solidarity. The resulting camaraderie spurs a growing collective imagination that fuels the envisioning of a future for our city that is positive: the flourishing of our people, the overall well being of our area, a helpful sense of place and the enhancing of the quality of life for Stone Mountain, our neighbors, the community of musicians, and the ATL.
As an organizing panel of leadership and volunteers, together with our sponsors and partners, we continue to plan and work for an incrementally better “Tunes By the Tracks” . And, as we strive to improve the series, we seek a vibrant and growing SMV along the way. This is our ambition each season.
SMV is diverse and we love it. Intentionally, we seek to curate a sweet spot of musical genres that serve our folks well. Thus, the selections of artists and genres we choose aim at resonating nicely across a broad reach of our citizens. We have consciously refrained from choosing genres that tend to polarize or separate and opted instead for artists and styles that draw together and reverberate well within the whole of our community. The artists and genres tapped to join us trackside in the SMV hold well to this aim and the value of sustainably supporting local roots, blues, and Americana music at the core and encouraging indie (versus cover or entertainment bands) as a priority.
Such is the work for 2019: starting from where we’ve grown, holding to our core, serving well, and striving be incrementally better today than yesterday. That said, there are a number of points that merit stating. The first is non negotiable - others open to consideration over time - yet, for any individual, or organization contemplating partnering in support of “Tunes By the Tracks”, please take note:
Race, gender, color, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, age, religion, or creed is not and will not be a measure in the artist selection for "Tunes By the Tracks". Moreover, discrimination - explicit or implied - based on the above, in any form will not be tolerated.
Artists invited to take part in "Tunes By the Tracks" are well invested and working in the ATL and regional music scene. To varying degrees, they are artists who live mostly out of their creative work and have a genuine voice in the genre mix we're after : Roots, Blues, Americana (Indie Folk, Rock, R&B and Soul included.) Therefore, we deliberately seek, select and nurture artists in genres that possess the potential of bringing Village folk together as we enjoy the music and gathering together.
"Tunes By the Tracks" artists fit, with very few exceptions, our planned budget, stage/sound capability, the nature of our being an outdoor venue, as well as, our commitment to serve the wellbeing of our Village and the local and regional indie roots, blues and Americana music communities with whom we connect.
"Tunes By the Tracks" artists have a following and a history in the ATL and regional music scene. We expect they will and actively work to connect their folks and followers outside the Village with folk in the Village and our Main Street via “Tunes By the Tracks” as it happens trackside each week to the good of all involved and affected. A commitment to reciprocity and work to effectively promote "Tunes By the Tracks" is reasonable and requisite to participation and consideration.
