Dear friends and supporters,
As many of you know, we grew up here in Sterling and have poured our hearts into creating spaces like McCauley’s Moustache Café and The Lounge at McCauley’s, McCauley's Barber, and New Pathways to Wellness and Recovery. Our dream has always been to bring something special to our community, to invest in our downtown, and to give people a place to gather and feel proud of.
Yesterday, the City of Sterling posted a closure notice on our door at 118 and 120 N 2nd St. declaring the building “unsafe to occupy.” This decision came without any written warning or chance to correct the issue, and it directly contradicts what we had previously been told by code officials just two months ago.
We have faced years of obstacles, delays, and inconsistent communication from the city, and this latest action makes it nearly impossible for small businesses like ours to survive. While we had already planned to close at the end of October, this abrupt order has cut us off sooner and caused deep financial and personal loss, as well as much disappointment in our community.
With that said, now it is our time to spread our wings and continue our journeys — to explore more of this beautiful world beyond the northeastern corner of Colorado. We have learned so many valuable lessons from being part of a small community, lessons we could not have gained anywhere else. We will always cherish those experiences and connections we have met along the way. This community has helped mold us into the people we are today.
We are deeply grateful to every customer, staff member, friend, and family member who has supported us. ❤️ Your encouragement has kept us moving forward through every challenge.
With much love,
The McCauleys
