Kudos to the LGBT community in being instrinsically valuable in getting Mayor, Zohran Mamdani ,elected as mayor of New York City.He received an overwhelming 82% of the LGBT vote in the city and large margins in the outer boroughs of New York City. Estimated to have about 800,000. residents that identify as LGBT and they vote for whomever has their back! He has understood ,respected and coveted our community, and we heard him loud and clear! We fought tirelessly during his campaign to get him elected. His resilience and tenacity to stand-up to this Maga-monstrous administration has been inspiring and fortifying. The rhetoric over anti-trans and anti-LGBT visibility is both astounding and alarming! A lawless and self-serving administration; under their warped and inept cultmaster, Donald J.Trump. Zohran Mamdani is the inspiration and aspiration we possess for our newly elected and esteemed mayor for the greatest city on earth....with a new vision!

👏

"The Leatherman" is perhaps the oldest, continually operating business along Christopher Street in the village, (est. in 1965). It occupied several storefronts on the iconic street over the years. Today, it is locateed at: 115 Christopher St. and has been there since 1980....in the disco glory days of the "old & gay", West-village that has largely disappeared. They are famous for adultware, leather clothing & accessories, sex-toys, orgasm-enhancers and everything under the sun (& moon), the once popular and ubiquitous leather scene & lifestyle required in decades past. Today, times have changed; however, a niche business remains and kinky leather attire & related goods still have a market....but much less so!

This shot is a real blast from the past! The popular Riker's Diner in 1937 on 7th Avenue South and W.4th Street in the village. In the 1970's, 80's & 90's it was a veritable village landmark called The Riviera Café on that triangle-shaped corner with outside dining in season. Serving good food at affordable prices!🧐

The front doors to the iconic: 'ICE PALACE-57' disco in 1978. The dance club was the gay answer to and rivaled 'STUDIO-54' for attention in the disco era. However, it remained somewhat clandestine in the mainstream in a far less tolerant and enlightened time for LGBT people. It ran from 1977 to 1975 and anyone gay or gay/bi-curious knew it and frequented it at least once. Located at:: 57 W.57th Street, near the corner of 6th Avenue, in ritzy Midtown-West. It was located one flight down to a decent, but not huge space for a popular disco in the 70's.The music, the people, the ambience and the vibe still vibrates today for those that were there so long ago and cherish the memories our beloved IP-57. The disco music and its entire culture that still evokes a profound fondness from our youth. 🏳️‍🌈

In loving memory of Congresswoman, Bella Abzug, {1920-1998}. Born in Manhattan to Russian Jewish immigrants that spoke Yiddish in the home. She was a valiant champion of both women's rights and gay rights. Bella was famous in the 1970's for her big hats and determined support for LGBT rights in NYC. This at a time when being so was far from popular and even dangerous! She is most noteworthy for yelling loudly on the steps of city hall one sweltering summer afternoon in 1977: "G**s & Le****ns Demand Equality...And They're Gonna Get It!" A good friend to mayor Ed Koch and both lived in the same building at: #2 5th Avenue, directly across from the arch at the entrance of Washington Sq. Park and close to the NYU campus. Sadly, she passed away in 1998 at age 77 of a heart condition. A true hero to the LGBT community, a real trail-blazing pioneer and her legacy lives on and she has not been forgotten by the gay community in NYC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eThkuBKHIXw

Anyone of a certain age (60+),alive today & a true survivor....remembers going to Badlands on a Sunday afternoon on that infamous corner of Christopher & West Streets in the mid to late 70's to the end of the 80's. A sea of men, mostly in jeans and
leather; yeah, that type. The glamor crowd headed to Ice Palace-57 uptown on Sunday for their infamous T-Dance party. It was the gay Studio-54 & a very popular disco of the era.

The Ramrod Bar-1975. New York's infamous gay leather bar, located at 394 West Street and W.10th....directly across from the old, elevated and derelict West Side Highway. It was the scene of an horrendous murder and shooting in 1980,dubbed: "The West Street Massacre", at a time when homophobia and gay hate crimes were ripe in the city and nation.

Back in the day....The corner of Christopher Street & 7th Avenue South in 1982 in the "gay" village! Notice the now defunct home improvement store Martin Paints where CVS is today. Before that it was a neighborhood mainstay as an A&P supermarket. A lot has changed and the village here is no longer a mecca for gay men like it once was. Even the Village Ci**rs, opened in 1922 on the corner is now vacant and for rent.🧐
