DID YOU KNOW “314 DAY” IS TRADEMARKED?

A lot of people celebrate 314 Day every year to show love for St. Louis, but many may not realize that the name “314 Day” is actually trademarked.

The trademark is owned by the 314 Day Foundation, which was founded in 2006 by Terrell “Dip” Evans and Tatum Polk to promote St. Louis pride, culture, and support local businesses every March 14th. Because the name is legally protected, businesses or organizations that want to use “314 Day” for events, branding, or merchandise may need permission through a licensing agreement.

Now before people get upset about it, we’ve all seen what can happen when someone creates something and doesn’t take the legal steps to protect it. Just look at the situation with Tendernism, where there was a whole fight over trademark rights.

So while some people may have mixed reviews, we want to salute them for doing things the right way and protecting what they built legally. When you create something meaningful for the city, it makes sense to make sure its origins are protected and respected. Photo credit: King Yella

Had a fantastic time attending the Hibernian event Hoses, Handcuffs, and Hardhats. It was an incredible evening celebrating the dedication and service of those who build up our communities every day. Congratulations to all of the award winners, you’ve truly earned the recognition!
