🕊️ September 13 marks the birthday of Sandy Williams, the visionary founder of the Carl Maxey Center and a tireless champion for justice, equity, and community.
Sandy was many things to many people: a community leader, activist, mentor, mother, friend, and a fearless speaker of truth. But perhaps most importantly, she believed deeply in the power of people and the strength of community.
She dreamed the Carl Maxey Center into existence, creating a space rooted in culture, equity, economics, and justice. Her work was driven by what those who knew her called her “radical empathy”. One with deep commitment to seeing people, listening to their stories, and working toward a better future for everyone. (Spokesman-Review)
Today, we honor Sandy not only by remembering her, but by continuing the work she started. Her vision lives on through the people, programs, businesses, families, and young people who walk through the doors of the Carl Maxey Center every day.
Her legacy is still moving forward.
Her work is still being done. Her vision is still alive.
