W**e, History & Wonderful Company in Avignon! 🇫🇷🍷

Another incredible day in France for the Uncorked crew! We began our day in Avignon, where the group split up to enjoy two unforgettable experiences.

Our w**e lovers headed to the renowned Châteauneuf-du-Pape w**e region, where we visited Brotte W**ery. Raphael guided us through the w**e museum before treating us to an exceptional tasting of 10 w**es! A highlight was a rare side-by-side tasting of La Fiole du Pape library w**es from 2015, 2012, and an incredible 1972 vintage. 🍇🍷

Meanwhile, others explored a 2,000-year-old Roman engineering marvel, the Pont du Gard aqueduct. This remarkable structure once carried water across 31 miles, with some individual stones weighing an astonishing six tons!

We also enjoyed a lovely lunch at Les Fines Roches before coming together for a special Chef’s Table dinner aboard the ship.

With all 29 of us gathered around the table, it was an evening filled with laughter, lively conversation, delicious food, and wonderful memories.

Olive Oil, History & Van Gogh in Provence! 🇫🇷🍷

Another wonderful day exploring the South of France with the Uncorked crew!

We started our morning with a visit to a sixth-generation family-owned olive farm in Les Baux, where we were entertained and educated on the art of olive oil production. Our biggest takeaway? Always buy extra virgin olive oil! 🫒

Next, we explored the charming hilltop village of Les Baux-de-Provence, wandering through its historic streets and castle ruins. Largely destroyed in the 17th century, this remarkable village has been brought back to life as one of Provence’s most captivating destinations.

In the afternoon, we returned to Arles for a fascinating walking tour following in the footsteps of Vincent van Gogh. During his time here, Van Gogh created approximately 300 works, and we had the opportunity to visit the very places that inspired some of his most famous paintings. We also saw where he lived and the hospital where he was treated following his infamous ear incident. A little art, a little history, and quite a few stories to tell! 🎨

We wrapped up another memorable day with a delicious dinner, plenty of laughs, and, of course, a special appearance from Corky! 🦆

Barcelona to Arles! 🇫🇷🍷🚢

We made our way from Barcelona to Arles, France, where our river cruise adventure begins. Thanks to some great organization, everyone made it to our destination—and we didn’t lose a single person along the way! 😬😂

Before boarding, we enjoyed a walking tour of historic Nîmes, exploring the remarkable Roman architecture and ancient structures that still stand today.

Then it was time to board our ship! Our luggage was already waiting in our cabins, making it easy to settle in before a lively welcome reception. With delicious food, plenty of w**e, a wonderful dinner, and evening entertainment, we’re already feeling right at home!

Exploring Montserrat 🇪🇸

Another spectacular day in Spain! Our group ventured to Montserrat, home to the historic Benedictine abbey of Santa Maria de Montserrat and the revered Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary.

In Catalan, Montserrat means “serrated mountain,” a fitting name for the dramatic, jagged rock formations that make this destination so extraordinary. The breathtaking views and remarkable history made for a truly unforgettable experience!

After returning in the afternoon, everyone enjoyed an evening exploring Barcelona’s dining scene at their leisure. Of course, Corky made appearances at several restaurants, although he got a little nervous when he spotted duck on the menu! 🦆😂

Hello from Barcelona! 🇪🇸🍷

Our crew spent the day exploring the beautiful city of Barcelona, including a visit to the breathtaking Basilica de la Sagrada Família. An architectural masterpiece that has been under construction for an incredible 144 years, it truly is a sight to behold!

We wrapped up the day with great food, w**e, and even better company at Babula Bar with part of the crew.🥂

And we’re off! 29 guests are off on our Rhone River Cruise. But first we have a pre-trip stop in Barcelona. The Uncorked Duck is enjoying the trip as well with a beverage and snack at several stops. We will be touring Barcelona and will post more photos soon!

A “Flight” to Rhone with Chateau de Staint Cosme:
Top Rhone Valley W**e Pairing with The Southport Cheese Shoppe!

Château de Saint Cosme is the leading estate of the Gigondas region, and produces the appellation’s benchmark w**es. These vines have been producing w**es since the Roman times, & the property has been in the hands of Louis Barruol’s family since 1490. Henri and Claude Barruol took over in 1957 and gradually moved Saint Cosme away from the bulk w**e business & towards a boutique label, with a shift to fully organic farming beginning in the 1970s. Then, Louis Barruol took over from his father in 1992, making a dramatic shift to quality, adding a négociant arm to the business in 1997, and converting to biodynamics in 2010.

As the gold standard estate of the Gigondas appellation, almost every single vintage of their primary cuvées across multiple decades have consistently crossed the 90-point threshold from premier critics like W**e Advocate, W**e Spectator, Jeb Dunnuck, Vinous, amd more.

Overall, Château de Saint Cosme has received hundreds of 90+ point scores from major w**e publications.

We will taste through some of the best w**es the estate has to offer, perfectly paired with curated charcuterie selections from The Southport Cheese Shoppe.
