This evening we visited The Wheelhouse Bar & Grill, it’s a clean venue with a sports bar feel. Unfortunately our visit didn’t start well as they were out of the first two appetizers we tried to order, but they did offer an alternative that was good. That being said, we are not food bloggers.

Let’s get on with drinks, I started with a classic Mule, it was as bright and refreshing as it should be, served in a copper mug. They have a huge variety of Mule flavors from Irish to Pear, if you’re a Mule fan this is definitely a place to check out.

Next was The Mermaid, honestly didn’t like this one, the flavors were confused and it ended up bland and a bit off putting.

The Michalada was fantastic, using Tajin on the rim was genius and the flavor followed the whole drink.

The Double Play tasted like sweet tarts, if you’re into that sort of thing you will love this, it has some good character.

The wheelhouse Mary, what can I say about this? I guess if you loose a bet don’t make it a menu item.

The next drink was Rick’s Weekend Tea, an alcoholic Arnold Palmer is really good, I could drink these every day.

The Home Run margarita is a solid example of a margarita.

All in all a good place, some ups and downs in our drink orders and I’m not a food blogger so no comment. The staff are all very friendly, attentive and the wait time for drinks was damn near zero. They also have a huge variety of beers on tap but we didn’t get into those this visit.

Tonight we stopped into Angelina's Cantina to check it out on the way home. What a pleasant surprise. Our waitress was a lovely young lady who made sure we enjoyed every part of our experience. The decore was fantastic lots of wood and very clean.

Now before I start telling you about the few drinks we had, it’s a work night you know, I would be wrong not to mention the incredible care and detail put into our amazing food, it was all perfect. I know I’m not a food blogger but these guys made a bowl for the guacamole out of avocado slices, and you don’t have to be any kind of blogger to know that’s special.

Let’s move on to drinks First we tried the lime margarita, it tasted great with a classic flavor and a crisply salted rim.

The Contarito was super refreshing drink in a clay cup. Tasted like drinking a cactus, with plenty of tequila, in fact they were not shy with the alcohol in any of our drinks.

The Fantastico is made with vodka and Fanta with some salt. It is as fantastic as the name implies.

The Paloma is a classic and was spot on, it also came in a clay mug which was different in a good way.

Unfortunately they were out of ingredients for mojitos but I was really impressed with everything else.

Love this place, we are definitely going back

We dropped in at The Warrior Hotel Autograph Collection last night. This is a beautiful property, if you haven’t been down to see it you absolutely should.

We decided to check out The Crown, which is their rooftop bar. I included a picture of the view which was the best part of the experience. The place was decently busy and we seated ourselves at the end of the bar. The cocktail list looked great and we were eager to get started. After waiting few minutes the bartender acknowledged us and we ordered our first drinks;

The Naughty or Spice was a good drink, I enjoyed the spicy flavor, which thanks to the allspice dram became more intense the longer it sat.

The Plush Pear was a smooth drink, that is a great autumn or Christmas flavor, but may benefit from being brightened up for the spring.

This is where the speed of service issue began showing. We sat with empty glasses for quite a long while and finally got the bartenders attention and ordered round two.

The Soco These Nuts was a bit of a mess to be honest, the shaken almond milk did not blend well and the result was a lumpy affair.

The Yippee-ki-yay Hardliners! Was a fantastic drink. The coffee-cherry flavor was amazing. I could sip on these all night.

Luckily, or so we thought, a second bartender arrived. I tried to get his attention even going as far as calling him by name when he got close enough for me to read his name tag, with no response. This is the point that both bar tenders abandoned the bar. We sat for a long while before we decided to time how long they were gone, and clocked over 4 minutes before they returned.

Our next order was the Tanqueray Tingle, I like a good gin & tonic and this was pretty good. Again I think this was more of an autumn drink with the rosemary and cranberry. The menu called for the allspice dram again which should have, I assume, provided the tingle but was not in mine.

The Blue-footed B***y was a tasty treat, I enjoyed the blueberry flavor and the basil was a nice touch for me, but my friend does not like basil. He made fun of me for saying basil properly, apparently it’s pronounced bayzil here in America and he thought my way of saying it was quite hilarious, this coming from a guy who used the word groovy in an earlier conversation.

Unfortunately due to the slow service we did not complete the menu. I think this could be a great place they just need to seasonally update the menu and put some systems in place to help the staff succeed.

Getting a bit hungry we decided to continue our adventure downstairs at Woodburys. Again a beautiful restaurant and bar. Again speed of service was an issue.

Our bartender was friendly but overwhelmed, they definitely needed more than one the sheer size of the bar, and the fact that she was responsible to make drinks for the tables as well as the bar demands at least two. They had an abundance of wait staff who could have been utilized to help the lone bartender.

Our first order was the 6th street Old Fashioned, it was well crafted and classic. A delicious drink.

The Triple Citrus Mojito was pretty good, it was a bit sweet for my taste, and the mint was just placed on top. You must s***k the mint!

I was craving a proper Mojito at this point as it is one of my all time favorite drinks if done well. I ordered a classic even though it was not on the menu, our bartender delivered perfectly. It was delicious!

The Harvey Wallbanger was another well balanced classic.

The hand crafting of the cocktails at Woodbury’s matches the classic design of the restaurant itself perfectly. Well maybe make that mojito a classic.

I want to add that our bartenders were all hard working and diligent, and the speed of service was not limited to the bar. We ordered the three course meal on special and we ended up leaving before the desert, we were just not willing to wait any longer. The food we did get was delicious.

I think putting in place some good systems and providing some training to staff would enhance the customers experience. The potential here is amazing.

I know I can be quoted as saying,”a margarita is a margarita.” But this evening Blue Tequila in Sgt Bluff made me eat my words, or more accurately drink my words.

They serve a good variety of margaritas that were all unique and freaking delicious. I did get one episode of brain freeze but to be fair it was when I was shooting the flight of margaritas like shots.

So I started out by ordering the Marga-Corona. I knew this was going to be great the second it landed on my table. It was a lime margarita with a heavy salted rim, two coronitas and a large shot of blue tequila inside, garnished with an orange and lime. Considering that I hadn’t had an alcoholic beverage in more than a week this thing about put me to bed. But don’t you worry dear readers, I rallied.

Second was the Blue Tequila Special, well it was blue and it was special, the quality tequila and fresh lime juice were absolute superstars. This was definitely one of the best, the bitter of the lime with the tequila made this margarita a complexed winner.

Third was the Rainbow margarita. The name made me think I was in for a sugary, icy mess. Boy was I wrong! This thing drank more like a high end alcoholic smoothie than a blended margarita. It was freaking brilliant.

I’ve said it before, we are not a food blog. That being said all our food was fresh and excellent and after being three giant margaritas in and eating a fantastic dinner I was taking a breather and soaking in my surroundings when I wished I hadn’t eaten, a waitress was carrying food to a table and one of the items was a stuffed pineapple and the whole freaking thing was on fire! I almost ordered again, but will save that for next time. The next thing I noticed is they were delivering flights of margaritas. I ordered one the very next time our waitress stopped by.

The flight was complete yumminess. Starting with a pina colada margarita that was like desert on the beach. Raspberry was fresh and delicious. Lime was not your average margarita it was fresh and bursting with citrus flavor. Mango is one of my favorite flavors of anything, and this didn’t disappoint. In case you were wondering this is when I suffered my bout of brain freeze and some rib cramps. Peach was next, it was a nice fruity starter after my freeze. Strawberry was classic and tasted like it had bits of fresh strawberry in it. All of these margaritas were sugar rimmed except the lime which was classic salt.

They do have a good selection of beer and mixed drinks too. I would recommend this place if you are going for drinks with your friends or on a full on dinner date. Everything was excellent

If anyone one knows a bar that will be serving St. Paddy’s themed drinks next weekend please comment on this post. Maybe we will pay them a visit next weekend.

This week we decided to try out 4 Brothers Grill & Bar. They have a solid cocktail menu and some great food options.

We sat at the bar and were immediately greeted by our bartender Andrew, while looking over the menu we asked Andrew what he recommended, he didn’t miss a beat: “The top shelf margarita or the old fashioned.” We took both.

The top shelf margarita had a classic flavor with a rich, smooth tequila. It was a nice refreshing drink. You could definitely taste the top shelf!

The old fashioned was fantastic. Andrew claimed it was his specialty and it showed.

The Mai Thai would not have been something I would have chosen on a night out, but, damn it was good. It ended up being one of my favorites of the day. You would think it would be overpoweringly fruity and sugary but it was definitely not, it was crisp and refreshing.

4 brother punch was a bit sweeter but still very good with a lemon cherry (grenadine) flavor.

The Mexican Mule was my absolute favorite. Andrew infuses tequila with Jalapeño then combines that with classic mule ingredients. It was amazing I could drink those on a hot summer day and be in heaven.

We decided to throw the same test at Andrew that we gave Luke last week, the Bourbon Crush. He really delivered on this, it was the best tasting bourbon drink I’ve had in a long time.

The White sangria was our last drink, once again they nailed it.

Four Brothers is a great place for some fresh cocktails prepared by a knowledgeable and friendly staff

As I sit here this morning wallowing in self pity and questioning all my life decisions, preparing to write the first drunk brothers blog, I wonder if it was all worth it.

Last night we went to P’s Pizza House in Dakota Dunes. The place looks huge inside and out and has a clean sports bar feel.

We were greeted by the manager Jesse and requested a drink list. As this is not our first outing we ordered a couple of appetizers and Mojitos. Our waitress Cassidy was friendly and helpful. It felt like our first drinks were a bit slow to arrive, but understandable as they seemed a bit under staffed. Our Mojito’s arrived and were followed shortly by our apps.

The Mojito’s were delicious, crisp and refreshing, and a great start. I think the only criticism I would have is that slapping the mint would have brightened it up, unfortunately this seemed to be the case with the garnish in all our drinks.

At this point we informed Cassidy that we were going to run the board on the drink menu so when she seemed a bit unsure we told her when you see one drink running empty put in the next order.

The Cucumber Daisy was next, a great cucumber lemon flavor. A great drink for a summer afternoon.

The Paloma would have been next but wasn’t available. The mixologist Luke was introduced to us at this point, so we challenged him to make a custom drink we named the Skywalker as a play on his name. He really came through with this gin based drink with Japanese undertones.

Blueberry Fields was next. While it was a bit sweet for my taste it was definitely a good drink and the blueberry came through well.

The Old Fashioned was delicious, bold and assertive as it should be. Also loved the large block of ice.

The Moscow Mule was a stand out, the house made ginger syrup used in place of ginger beer makes this drink unique and delicious.

The Lemon Drop was great, I’d never ordered one before thinking it would be overly sweet. This was not the case at all, it has a nice lemon flavor with a hint of vanilla and a bitterness that finished the drink perfectly.

Margaritas are margaritas nothing new here, classic flavors and the black salt on the rim was a nice touch.

The BlackBerry Mojito was just as good as the classic but with a nice blackberry flavor for a refreshing change.

P’s Knees is another lemon based drink, it was crisp and refreshing and it was at this point I realized I would not be leaving P’s with scurvy.

Hail Mary was a nice change, Bloody Mary is a great drink and this one is excellent, the pepper infused vodka gives it a bit of spice but not too much.

P’s Tea is a great play on a classic, crisp and refreshing.

Sangria was as it should be, full bodied and fun.

Space Colada is creamy and bursting with coconut and pineapple flavors. I would order this as desert any time.

The New York Sour was a perfect way to end our quest. Perfect ratio of liquor to sour.

This is when most sane people would have ended this quest. The staff at P’s were doubtful we could complete the drinks list, we must have been making quite a stir at this point as a back of house guy came out to our table to tell us he didn’t think we could do it.

The truth is our collaboration is quite short on sanity and common sense. So we decided to give Luke a final test. We gave them a 6 min from the time of order to deliver a Bourbon Crush. He delivered a version of a highball which while good didn’t have the elements required in the crush. All in all he successfully completed the test.

At this point Jesse had caught on to our lack of sanity and brought us out a couple of mini beer shots to end the night. He really figured us out.

Overall P’s is a great place for drinks and food, with a good atmosphere and amazing service. I highly recommend going there for a few drinks and the food is amazing, but food blogging is not our bag.

In closing we would like our readers to know that we finish every drink we try and get a bit tipsy by the end of the experience, so we are responsible and have a sober driver and the next day off work.
