“Women’s History Month, celebrated in March, honors the vital contributions of women to American history, culture, and society.”

❣️ As I honor HERstory month and how I could pay tribute to some of the special women I photographed this past year, I recognized a common theme … the significant contribution they make in their daily lives.

While this story is just a sampling, these are some exceptional women, including teachers and school specialists, military, police, nurses, nurse practitioners and PAs, professors, pharmacists, critical hospital staff, architects, and many more, who open their hearts every day!

honors these and all women, who continue to give & love, despite the hardships and difficulties they may face.

Keep telling your story! ❣️

Celebrating my mom and sister during this International Women's time. Two of the strongest women I have ever known!

Passport photo from when they immigrated from Italy in the 1940s! They came into Ellis Island via a long boat journey and started a new life here in America. It wasn't easy, but they never complained; were just grateful to be here and make a life for themselves.

My father and brother came a full year later. In between this time, another child was born. Explained why Mom puked the entire journey!

Eternally grateful for the love they shared, with family, friends, neighbors and strangers and the lessons learned.❤️

There's this place I go to find solace, quiet, beauty, and a few moments of peace.

I was hoping to photograph with film today, but will have to do that another day, as it was a far ride to buy film. Instead, I took a very short ride to this place I love, and in the distance saw this beautiful red barn, surrounded by a fresh blanket of snow.

As I sat in my car admiring the scene, I saw in the distance, a Momma escorting her cafe through the snow. She clearly is in her postpartum interval (for cows it lasts between 40-90 days), training her baby on how to find food and drink, up and down hills and valleys, through a season that not only brings cold, but in today's case, about 15 inches of snow.

It reminded me of the sacrifices my mom made, through her life journey, and how much stronger she became with each challenge she faced.

I dedicate this post to those facing their own challenges. Stay strong, celebrate the wins, no matter how small they may seem, and remember to always be compassionate and kind. ❤️

❣️As fresh snow fell, I couldn’t help to imagine how beautifully seasonal this day would be. They had a small, simple wedding, enjoying the warmth, comfort & love of their closest family and friends.

Congratulations Brian & Jenny!

It was such a pleasure being a part of your day! Not only did I get to do one of the things I love most 📸, I was also privileged to witness a good dose of pure joy and happiness!

Wishing you a lifetime of love!❣️

The Winter Solstice Mission

Sharing this personal story ... truly a special gift and memory made this holiday season. For me, it was a perfect reminder that we all need to share in the joy, love, and kindness that fuels hope. No better way to end the year and begin a new one! Happy New Year!
————————————————————

It’s been happening for years, a traditional reading aloud of “The Polar Express” to the children (young & old), during our annual family holiday celebration.

This year’s celebration took place over the weekend of the Winter Solstice. Several of the “children”, who are now young adults, took this timely opportunity to incorporate the traditions of the season into an interactive ritual celebration, performed exclusively by members of my family.

Traditional practices of welcoming in the year’s Long Night were incorporated, alongside the holiday themes of spreading joy, love, and kindness to those around us, into a ceremony that captured the imaginations of the children while teaching them the importance of keeping the light inside themselves, warm and bright.

Handmade props, live music, and a lot of creative lighting made for a magical evening that ended with hot cocoa around a yule log made by my nephew, and an opportunity to set our intentions for the New Year over the magic of a warm fire.

So, I hope you enjoy this sneak peek, and will leave you with the words used by my niece, to close the ceremony:

~May the days ahead rise gently to meet you. May your steps be steady. May your heart find room for new joys.

The Old Year behind us, and the New Year beginning, brighter and braver because of the hope we shared.~
