Winemaker and proprietor Vic McWilliams has over thirty years experience making award winning wines and managing vineyards in Sonoma. A North Dakota native, winemaker and owner Vic McWilliams has been making wine in Sonoma Valley since 1978. Former proprietor and winemaker of Castle Vineyards and Winery, Vic has won countless awards and accolades for his sought-after wines. His newest venture, Victor Hill Wines, produces a mere 700 cases a year and makes only the finest hand-crafted wine from grapes grown in local vineyards that he has personally worked or supervised for many years. Vic's style is to produce classic wine that highlights the spectacular, hand-selected fruit from which it comes. In his words, "Treat the wines as you have the vines, tend them by hand, make them in small lots with care and attention, and use only the most minimal intervention." Known for his award-winning, must-have, signature Pinot Noirs, Sauvignon Blanc, and Rhone varietals (including vineyard designated Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Cinsaut, Grenache, Syrah and late harvest wines), Vic intends to again offer an expanded selection of varietals in future years. Tom Hill, co-proprietor of Victor Hill Wines, grew up in a small town in Germany near the ancient wine-producing region of Franconia and developed an early appreciation for the art and craft of winemaking. He subsequently lived in France and Switzerland and further deepened his love of wine, especially those from Burgundy and the Rhone Valley. After a business career in which Tom traveled to many parts of the world and got to explore local wines in many places, including some as far-flung as Argentina, Chile, Australia and the country of Georgia, he settled in Sonoma and has lived there full-time for the past 12 years. He became involved with Castle Winery & Vineyards, and, after its sale, he and Vic established Victor Hill Wines in 2008. Tom is every bit as committed as Vic to producing the best wines from the best, strictly local, vineyards.
