Charlie's Bar has been part of the landscape in Somers Point since Charlie Thomas opened it as a classic corner bar in 1944. These days, it’s the fourth generation of the Thomas family who carries on the corner-bar, “CHEERS” atmosphere only with a whole lot more! Charlies is not just a bar, it’s a full service restaurant as well, serving up some of the regions most famous wings & a full range of A

merican cuisine from seafood, to prime rib to southwestern. The bar itself offers a wealth of specials including giant frozen coolers, shooters, a full wine list, and a full range of both draught beer & beer by the bottle. While food has played an important role it is only one aspect of how Charlies has served and even strengthened the local community. While the normal activities one would expect at their favorite tavern are here; (special parties, events such as the "Locals Party", the annual Pig Roast to celebrate the beginning of the Philadelphia
Eagles football season and Monday Night Quarterback Club just to name a few), but beyond the activities that provide constant fun for Charlie's customers is the establishment’s reputation for giving back to the community. It's no wonder that the base of Charlie's customers is a fiercely loyal bunch! Whether you go to Charlies for the special events, for parties, for listening to a great jukebox, or just to play pool and shoot the breeze, a good time is always had by all at Charlies. Today, Charlie’s lost more than a former employee—we lost family. My best friend, Kenny Po***ck, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

Kenny spent many years at Charlie’s bartending. He made everyone feel welcome and left a lasting impact on so many lives. In his honor, our neon Charlie’s sign will be off tonight.

To me, Kenny was more than a coworker—he was my best friend. We shared countless memories and laughs that I will carry with me forever. His kindness, humor, loyalty, and the way he genuinely cared for others made him someone you could never replace.

The love we have for Kenny doesn’t disappear—it lives on in the stories we tell, the friendships he built, and the countless lives he touched. While our hearts are heavy with grief, they are also filled with gratitude for the time we were blessed to have with him. His memory will continue to guide us, reminding us to laugh a little louder, care a little deeper, and cherish the people around us.

Our thoughts are with the Po***ck family, his brothers and sisters at the Ocean City Firefighters L-4032 and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Kenny will always be a part of the Charlie’s family, and he will never be forgotten.

Rest easy, my brother. Until we meet again. So toss away stuff you don’t need in the end / But keep what’s important and know who’s your friend
