When we started this journey six years ago, we had this dream of creating a space where we could help local organizations while building an in-person community…something we believe has been lost in the world. Since opening two years ago, there have been a ton of ups and downs and we’ve met some incredible people; folks who will forever change our lives. But, it’s with that in mind, that we must announce that we are closing effective immediately.
This hasn’t been an easy decision but a decision that is right. There are lots of layers to why we came to this decision and we feel we owe that explanation to our amazing guests and supporters:
1) THE CLIMATE OF 2020. COVID did take some financial air out of our tires but we could limp along until there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The biggest thing COVID did was create a necessary environment where in person community no longer can exist for the foreseeable future. We value our social responsibility and have no desire to push boundaries while risking our employees and guests. That’s just not what we do or ever consider. Because of that, a large part of what we set out to do just isn’t feasible right now…nor will it be feasible for at least a year. Songwriter Rounds, Wax Wednesdays and Trivia Nights were so incredibly special and we feel sort of lost without these opportunities to connect.
2) FAMILY. Because of COVID 19, our family dynamic will have to change in big ways. Distance learning is probably our new reality for a while. We have small children and that is going to use up an extraordinary amount of emotional energy. We have also worked very different schedules and desperately need to find some sort of structured rhythm as well as cohesivity.
3) THE BUILDING. The building we currently are in is owned by a really nice man who has been incredible through all this. But we also know that he eventually wants to use the building for one of his dreams. Which means that, at some point, we would probably need to move elsewhere. This just seems like a good time to close our doors and allow our landlord to begin his family’s new journey.
All in all, we have been so proud of what we’ve done in this little town. We are amazed by the support of some incredible people. We’re so proud to stand next to our allies in the fight for marginalized and hurting communities (big shout out to Looking Glass Coffee, Top It Yogurt Shop, Malicious Woman Candle Company, Snohomish Fitness Center, and Essential Luxuries for being vocal and active in these same fights, especially in light of the ugly scene that happened on our streets May 31s and the following days).
Remember to continue voting with your dollars. Remember to support those who do the right things in our community. And thanks for the support these last two years.
