Raft Up Guidelines
If you are planning to attend Raft Up 3,
we have put together the following guidelines for the Raft Up. Please read on and share this email with anyone you have invited.
1. When entering the cove, please do so with NO WAKE and when choosing a place to anchor, keep the far left of the cove open should we need to get any emergency boats in.
2. Please stay at least 50 feet away from any docks in the cove.
3.. You need at least one anchor and lots of fenders and lines.
4. Put all your fenders out well in advance. Tie them on properly.
5. It helps if you can raft up next to a boat of similar size, as climbing from one to the other will be easier and safer. If rubbing strakes and fenders are at roughly similar heights the fenders will not squeeze up-or down.
6. Approach slowly from behind the line-up, which may be swinging to the wind. Watch out for swimmers, canoeists, rafts, etc.
7. Move ahead of the line, drop your anchor and reverse into position with tension on the anchor line.
8. Get bow and stern lines onto the boat next to you. Don't forget to use spring lines.
9. Keep a stern anchor in mind; you can't have too much holding power. Don't try to cheat by relying on the anchors of other boats.
10. Run a check on the fenders for height and fore and aft position.
11. Skippers and crew members should stand ready to assist another boat as it rafts up along side your boat.
12. When leaving, do a 360-degree visual check before you start the engine. As you move forward to retrieve your anchor, watch out for possible swimmers.
13. If you plan to stay until after dark, check in advance to make sure your running lights are working properly.
14. If you're driving the boat home, drink responsibly. Better yet, have a Designated Driver.
15. If you are drinking in your boat, remove your keys from the ignition so as to avoid "drinking with intent to drive" .
16. Fireworks are not permitted due to the fire hazard and the number of boats and people all tied together.
17. Bring your own Port-A-John and trash cans. Please protect our cove. People will likely be swimming during and after the event.
18. Come prepared to stay and have a good time.
19. Pay attention to the weather. If it's raining or a significant threat of severe storms, check your email for possible cancellation before heading to the party.
20. Be Safe!
