Behind the Badge, Inc. Launches New Nonprofit Chapter; Announces 2026 Ball of the Badges Event, Beneficiaries, and Award Nominations
Shawano, WI: A new chapter begins for a beloved community tradition. Behind the Badge, Inc has officially been established as a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting first responders across Shawano and Menominee Counties.
The annual Ball of the Badges event, previously held under the financial umbrella of Safe Haven, Shawano, will now operate as the primary fundraiser for Behind the Badge. The event will continue its mission of honoring local heroes while expanding its impact to support organizations connected to first responders and their service.
The 2026 Ball of the Badges will be held on Friday, November 13, 2026, at North Star Casino Resort.
This year, the primary beneficiary of event proceeds will be the Shawano VFW Post 2723, with Safe Haven of Shawano continuing their involvement, serving as the secondary beneficiary as the organization transitions into this new structure.
โOur goal through our new non-profit, Behind the Badge, Inc, is not only to recognize our first responders through awards, a formal program, and a shared evening of appreciation, but also to give back directly to First Responder Agencies and organizations that support and stand alongside them,โ said event organizers.
The partnership with the Shawano VFW Post 2723 reflects a natural alignment in the mission of Behind the Badge Inc. Military service members often continue careers in law enforcement, fire service, and emergency response. The values of service, protection, discipline, and commitment to community are deeply shared between military personnel and first responders. Supporting the VFW honors that connection and the continued impact veterans have within local public safety roles.
Looking ahead, Behind the Badge plans to expand its reach. Beginning in 2027, the organization intends to open the opportunity for additional nonprofit partners to benefit from event proceeds and collaborate in the mission of supporting first responders and their families. Input from community members will be highly encouraged.
In addition to announcing its new structure, Behind the Badge is currently seeking nominations for its 2026 awards. These honors recognize outstanding individuals across multiple first responder disciplines who exemplify courage, compassion, and dedication to their communities.
Each award recipient will be recognized during the Ball of the Badges program and will also have the opportunity to direct a $1,000 donation to a nonprofit organization or agency of their choice. Selected organizations must align with the mission of supporting first responders, their families, or causes closely connected to their service.
