The Seneca Shipyard Days Festival is a yearly festival that celebrates Seneca's role in WW II as home to the "Shipyard on the Prairie" manufacturing LST's (Land Ship Tanks) for the war effort. During this period Seneca's population grew and we celebrate those that worked for the shipyards and helped with the war effort each year with historical eduation, Illinois LST Association, Seneca Historical Guild, Live bands, Taste of Seneca food booths, beer garden, and a carnival midway.

FROM MAYOR OLSON:

I would like to address the fact that we are not having a Shipyard Festival, nor a Cruise Night, this year. Unfortunately, after Shipyard Festival last year, the carnival that had been here for two years advised that they did not make enough money to come back. We also had a very low car count at last year’s Cruise Night. Add to all of that, the lack of volunteers.

As a result, we decided to take a year off as a reset and to decide how to proceed in the future.

In order to have a Shipyard Festival and Cruise Night in the future, we desperately need volunteers. These events are completely run on volunteers – without them we just can’t have these types of activities. If you are interested in volunteering for future festivals, please contact Mayor Olson at 815-228-7488 or Village Hall at 815-357-8771 to sign up.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this year’s Seneca Days a success!!
