STYLE FEATURE: BACHATA
Passionate, rhythmic, and wonderfully expressive, Bachata originated in the Dominican Republic, evolving from a blend of African, Indigenous, and European influences.

Dominican-style Bachata emphasizes fast footwork and musical interpretation, while modern styles such as Sensual and Urban Bachata focus more on fluid body movement and dramatic styling. Traditionally danced to romantic guitar-driven music, modern Bachata has expanded to include influences from pop, R&B, and electronic sounds — and is now danced around the world.

For grand entrances, candlelit ceremonies, luxurious wedding attire, and a dance floor with room for choreographed bridal party numbers, there’s the Grand Ballroom at Reverie.

You may not see Matt "MJ" Johnson (he/they) at every weekly dance but if the DJ sounds great, the instructor microphones are working, and the vibe is extra special, there’s a good chance they’ve had something to do with it.

As Reverie Ballroom’s AV Lead, Matt brings together two particularly useful areas of expertise: they’re a longtime dancer and a professional stagehand.
That combination gives Matt what they call a unique perspective on “AV For Dancers™️”—understanding the technical needs of a performance or live band while also knowing what matters to the people actually out on the floor.

Matt has loved working with Reverie’s many different dance communities and helping support the continued revitalization of this incredible, historic space.
We’re very glad to have MJ behind the scenes, keeping the wires talking to the secrets behind the walls and the Ballroom sounding its best.

Regular dancers, please keep an eye on the Event Calendar! https://www.reverieballroom.com/events The Grand Ballroom dance floor will be refinished Sunday, August 30 through Wednesday evening, September 2.

To accommodate this much-needed housekeeping, some dancing will move to the Emerald Ballroom, with the following schedule changes:

WEST COAST SWING
The drop-in class before the social will still happen but it will move from 8:00pm to 8:30pm-9:00pm
