Another highlight of this trip was stumbling across a little wine bar in Santiago de Compostela named Nómade. With that name, I had to go in.

It was between lunch and supper and so quiet enough that I got to spend an hour chatting with the owner Fran on what it's like to operate a wine bar in Spain as well as let him lead me on a guided journey of some local wines.

When I'm out and about, I just ask the host, sommelier, owner whatever to just choose wines that they find interesting. It opens the door to new tastes and experiences versus asking for what I drink back home and this was no different. A white, red and sparkling that were all fantastic and unique bottles beyond the typical Rioja or Ribera del Duero

Thanks, Fran!

I spent the last couple weeks in Spain and the crew at Sybaris2.0 in Ourense were nice enough to introduce me to Jorge of L'ombre wines via Whatsapp. After one message Jorge invited me to his winery the next day and spent the whole morning showing me around his winery and vineyard. Just a little over one acre, Jorge produces 8000 bottles a year all by himself. He plants the vines, prunes, picks (with friends and family) , destems, crushes, bottles all by himself.

He told me that he loved sherry and Jerez (the birthplace of sherry) and so he bought a couple of old sherry casks to age his whites. Because of this, his wine takes on a little bit of flour..think of it as a bit of a ye**ty aroma, almost like fresh bread but also flowers. It's not overwhelming...just a bit of character that separates it from a lot of nondescript albarino that you find in Galicia.

It's a remarkable wine and a lovely experience. I can't thank Jorge enough for spending so much time with me. He doesn't export and so we can't showcase his wines at Nomadic but we will be adding a Spanish Whites section very soon..So great for Summer, these whites are high acid and delicious on a hot day and wonderful food wines. We are going to bring in whites from regions most people have never heard of like Ribeira Sacra and Rías Baixas.

In the meantime, get out there and keep trying wines you've never heard of!

Hand-crafted in small batches right here in Seattle, is creating a new type of Amaro using local ingredients. If you haven't tried their amaro (or any amaro) before, swing by tonight from 6-8 to sample these unique, PNW creations.

In addition, they've created three special cocktails for tonight only that combine their amaro with wine for something truly unique.

Heart Attack and Vine:
Rustling Wood Amaro, Cab & Sweet Vermouth

Zesty Enterprise:

Gillian, Joey and I will be making these to order from 6-8 and pairing with a little appertivo of Mortadella, Manchego and Castelvetrano olives.
