Dear loyal customers and friends,
Just a quick note to let you know that after turning 70 in October, I shall retire at the end of January 2023. I was trained by the original owner, Herb Friedman, God bless his soul, who started the Northlake in 1954. I need to focus on my current health issues at this time, but I am happy that the Big Mario’s family will continue in the Northlake tradition bringing quality pizza and hospitality to our community on Northlake.

I want to say thank you so much for all your help throughout the years. My heart and soul will always be the Northlake Tavern.

About Northlake Tavern and Pizza House

Successfully Making Pizza Since 1954

Northlake Tavern and Pizza House opened in 1954. The special kind pizza we feature here is from an old Italian recipe. It happened one day as the original owner of this establishment expressed his dissatisfaction with the pizza. "Pshew, what garbage!" he exclaimed. "I'll bet I can make a better pizza than this." So a bet was made.

Special Pizza Recipe

He recalled eating a great pizza in New York ... so he gave a call to an old friend in NY whose family ran an Italian restaurant and he got their special pizza recipe. After some experimentation with various kinds of toppings, cheeses, and crust, the Northlake Style Pizza was born! He won the bet.
