π· Raising a Glass to Hispanic Heritage
National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15th to October 15th β and that start date is intentional.
September 15th is independence day for five countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, all of which broke from Spain in 1821. Mexico's independence day follows on September 16th, and Chile's on September 18th.
The month celebrates the contributions the Hispanic and Latino communities have had on the US and, more specifically, we are celebrating the impact and innovations these communities have had in the wine industry.
Hispanic and Latino workers make up the vast majority of vineyard laborers and are foundational to wine production. But access to wine education and career advancement has historically been limited for this group, which has led to very few Hispanic and Latino-owned wine brands.
That's starting to change. More programs and nonprofit wineries are now working to improve access, opportunity, and awareness β and as a result, more Hispanic and Latino winemakers are emerging in the industry.
Want to try Latinx and Hispanic wine? During HHM, enjoy a 10% discount on bottles in our online shop (we ship too) and find Hispanic wines featured by the glass in the bar. And be sure to join us at our HHM Mixer and Vino & Vibes Latin Nights. Both events will feature cultural wine and food specials built to celebrate!
