This week I lost my best friend. After trying unsuccessfully to start our family for over a year, we made the impulsive decision to get a dog. I went on PetFinder.com and found a cute puppy in Owensboro, Kentucky. Post stated “Unfortunately we are a high kill shelter due to the amount of animals being brought to the shelter. If you are not local we can recommend transport services.” Willing to take a road trip, I called and asked about transportation. I was given a woman’s contact in Hershey, Pennsylvania. After connecting with her, I was told it would be $20 for adoption and $80 for transportation. No credit cards accepted. No checks accepted. Must pay in advance prior to transportation. With no Venmo in 2010, I was told to go to Walmart and buy a gift card and read off the numbers to the lady that day (not shady at all). We woke up that Saturday to drive to Hershey to either get a puppy or lose $100. Betsy took a pregnancy test that morning and found out she was pregnant with our daughter. The most stressful day of my life was the day we went from a married couple to a family. We met Nittany in Hershey, and our lives have never been the same. My heart is broken. There will never be another Nittany “Crazy” “Fluffy Puppy” “Nitt” Witt. While I can’t bring myself to go in the brewery at the moment, Nitt Witt Brewery will always honor her (with one ear up and one ear down). Love you always Nittany.
