The Portly Villager Family is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of our dear friend Richard Michael Houlihan. He was a valued member of the community and a dedicated to helping Marlene at the pub in his semi retirement. Alongside his commitment to supporting Marlene and ensuring the pub ran smoothly, Mike also proudly served our country as a veteran of the USAF. In addition , although he would never speak of it , I know he was very proud of his contribution in upholding the legacy of the Michael Murphy Museum.
Richard Michael Houlihan, 77, of Oakdale, LI, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Raised in Lindenhurst, Mike graduated from Lindenhurst High School in 1964. He worked for many years in the printing industry and more recently as a bartender here locally.

Mike is survived by his son, Sean of Florida, his daughter, Corey and her wife Karen of Delaware, his two grandchildren, Chloe and Aibhilin, as well as his great-granddaughter, Anya.

Friends and relatives will gather 4-8 p.m. on Friday, May 24th at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville where a service will be held at 7 p.m. Interment and committal services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25th at Calverton National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Tunnel To Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306, are appreciated by the family.

The Portly Villager Staff and Family would like to express their gratitude to the Sayville Fire Department for coordinating the fund drive for the family of Officer Diller. The response from this community was, once again, second to none. The kindness and generosity of this community never seems to waver during difficult times. Your donation will honor his memory and help support the grieving family. We live with the sad reality of the events that led to this senseless act, knowing that all we can do is provide aid and comfort to Officer Diller’s family during this difficult time. Your support inspires all of us to uphold the values that Officer Diller embodied as one of society’s protectors: bravery, selflessness, dedication, and compassion. Thank you to all who were able to donate, and thank you to all of our first responders and frontline workers who keep our communities and residents safe.

Calling on all who can help this family during this difficult time. Any donations would be appreciated.

Peter Malnati , his first win since his last 9 years ago. Ever hear of him ? I haven’t either. With that said , I prefer to watch the PGA tour who donates over 3 billion a year to charities and still has the best venue to cultivate the golfers in the world. Don’t miss watching any of the players who left. The pga tour is still exciting to watch.
