Focusing on Eastern European cuisine and California’s abundant produce, Birdie G’s is helmed by award-winning Chef and Co-Owner Jeremy Fox (also the chef/co-owner at Rustic Canyon) and Chef de Cuisine Matthew Schaler. Located within Santa Monica’s historic Bergamot Station, the neighborhood restaurant is named after Jeremy’s daughter Birdie and grandmother Gladys. Taking inspiration from Jeremy’s

ancestral roots, the menu is an exploration and celebration of the cuisines of Hungary, Poland, Ukraine, Germany and more. Nearly everything is made in-house, with an emphasis on zero-waste, and seasonal ingredients are sourced from local farmers, ranchers and fishers aligned with the restaurant’s values of planet-friendly practices. From the food to the cocktails to the wine list, everything has a story and pays homage to loved ones – friends, family, farmers – who inspire the team.

It’s with both sadness and gratitude that we share Birdie G’s will close at the end of this year.

When we opened in 2019, Birdie G’s was meant to be a personal love letter from and our RC Family — named after his daughter Birdie and grandmother Gladys. From the start, we were met with so much love, acclaim, and incredible regulars. But only 8 months in, the pandemic hit, and the years that followed brought staffing shortages, strikes, fires, and a steep decline in tourism that made it harder and harder to keep our doors open.

On top of those challenges, we faced ongoing obstacles from the City of Santa Monica. Guests were never allowed to use the Bergamot parking lot — even when it sat empty after hours — and long-promised projects like a hotel, parking structure, and train access were abandoned. Instead of support and vision for independent restaurants, we encountered barriers that made survival even more difficult.

We’ll be closing after service on December 31st, but until then, we’d love to celebrate with you over a few more great meals. In December, we’ll also host one final 8 Nights dinner series with chef friends from across the country to give Birdie G’s the send-off it deserves.

To everyone who has supported us these past 6+ years: thank you for being part of our story. ❤️

ICYMI — we brunch every Saturday, and we don’t do it quietly. Coil of Chicken Apple Sausage, wood-grilled and cozy on heirloom polenta with braised collard greens. Brûléed Brioche that’s basically dessert in disguise—Seville orange marmalade, hoshigaki, pistachio, vanilla chantilly. Oh, and don’t forget the cocktails.

We’re celebrating with the return of Brunch, officially BACK at Birdie G’s—every Saturday starting June 21, (our birthday) and this time, it’s here to stay! 🥳 We’re kicking it off with a birthday bash for our 6th year, featuring a live DJ (June 21 only!) and a menu full of brunch hits.

Our BLUE PLATE SPECIALS are BACK 💙If you were with us when we first opened back in 2019, you’ll remember Blue Plates were part of our everyday menu. We’re bringing that tradition back — with daily Blue Plate specials, featuring a mix of new dishes and old favorites.

Tonight, we’re serving up a classic: Lamb à la Saless with fenugreek, black lime, beet molasses, dill & saffron. It’s nostalgic, it’s bold, it’s back — and it’s only on Wednesdays.
