Friends of Renee’s, we have sad news to share. Renne passed away this morning after a full life of 94 years. Renee was a true legend and will be sorely missed.
Please see the message below from her son Jimmy.
So this is a bit of a difficult post to share. Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend to many Renee has passed away. She was 94 and led a full life of love, family, adventure and an enduring warmth for people that was indeed rare. Many of you know her from her years in New York City she was born and raised and where she made lifelong dear friends, worked in the swankiest nightclubs of 1950’s era Manhattan, got married, bought a home and raised a family. Many more of you know her from her second life in Los Angeles where she opened the eponymous and some might say infamous Renee’s courtyard Cafe, A lovely little lunch and brunch spot in Santa Monica that somehow morphed into one of the most notorious dive bars in 90’s and 2000’s era of the Westside Los Angeles. It was there that she held court nightly for nearly thirty years, well into her eighties, and touched the lives of countless people. There are way to many stories to share about Renee to recount here, suffice too say she was loved by many and will be missed by many, perhaps none more than her devoted sons, her daughter in law and beloved grandsons who lit up her life in her later years.
