After 44 years I am Retiring- Every Thing is on Sale

After 44 years in the Wine Business (and poor health) I have decided to retire and close down Carolina Wine Merchants and Vinous Wine Bar.

Pretty much everything is on SALE. Wine, wine racks, restaurant tables, gift basket supplies, kitchen appliances, food, popcorn machine, wood wine boxes and many other items (way too many to list.)

Our doors will be closing in August so come on down and find some bargains!

Elizabeth “Wilson” Farrington is a multi-disciplinary artist with a freelance career encompassing ceramic sculpture, pottery, garden/interior design, dance, and of course, music.
Primarily a jazz vocalist, Wilson is also an instrumentalist and songwriter who is equally at home with Americana and Blues.

A native New Yorker, she cut her teeth in musical theater early on, studied classical voice, and ultimately fronted a variety of bands, from Big Band/Jazz Ensembles, to pop, rock, punk, and solo singer/songwriter gigs.

Always that weird kid with an affinity for the obscure and complicated, she has amassed a repertoire of “wordy, difficult, unknown, and ridiculous” songs which she loves to perform with an authentic style, just as if you’re having a friendly conversation.

Farrington earned a B.A. in Creative Arts Therapy (music, art, dance) at the State University of New York at Fredonia, and studied guitar at the New School in NYC.

She has continued to learn from the greats, and has performed in a variety of venues, from NYC/Philadelphia/D.C clubs, to Mid-Atlantic spots such as

Glen Echo’s famous Spanish Ballroom, the D.C. Marriott, and Stage Alive Concert Association.

Farrington relocated to North Carolina in 2022 and is now proud to call it home.

Following the tremendous success of our First Two Jazz Concert Night (Heart of Carolina Jazz Stroll & ), we are pleased to announce another exceptional evening of classic jazz at Vinous Wine Bar. Due to high demand and limited seating, we encourage you to reserve early.

This time we will be Featuring Sanford’s own Greg Gelb Jazz Quartet featuring the music of Benny Goodman & Charlie Christian with outstanding Jazz Guitarist Drew Luke.

Gregg has been a professional musician since the 80's, performing with Group Sax, Paul Montgomery, Kathy Gelb and the Gregg Gelb Swing Band, The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra, The NC Jazz Repertory Orchestra, The NC Symphony, the Second Line Stompers, La Fiesta Latin Jazz Quintet and his small groups.

He is an arranger and composer, having written over 250 charts for his eight piece band and over 50 charts for big band.

He directs the award-winning Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble, which has been selected to the finals of Jazz at Lincoln Center's Essentially Ellington Competition and Festival five times.

Following the tremendous success of our inaugural Jazz Night on June 28th (Heart of Carolina Jazz Stroll), we are pleased to announce another exceptional evening of classic jazz at Vinous Wine Bar. Due to high demand and limited seating, we encourage you to reserve early.

The performance will feature acclaimed pianist and composer Stephen Anderson, Professor of Jazz at UNC Chapel Hill. Dr. Anderson has released fourteen recordings through respected labels such as Summit, Albany, and Nagel Heyer Records. Several of his works—including "Nation Degeneration," "Believe," "360˚ Jazz Initiative, Distracted Society," and "The Dominican Jazz Project"—have appeared on Grammy® Awards ballots for Summit Records.

Notably, The Dominican Jazz Project was recognized at the 17th Annual Latin Grammy® Awards in the categories of “Best New Artist” and “Best Jazz CD.” Both "Nation Degeneration" and "Forget Not" by the Stephen Anderson Trio received 4½ stars from All Music Guide, with "Forget Not" earning a nomination for best jazz debut CD at the 3rd Annual Village Voice Jazz Critics Poll in 2008. Ken Frackling of Jazz Notes included The Dominican Jazz Project among the top Latin/Brazilian jazz recordings of 2016.

The Steve Anderson Trio features Matt Booth on bass and Larry Draughn on drums. Special guest performers Kathy Montgomery Gelb (vocals) and Greg Gelb will be joining the trio for this memorable event.
