After 30 years in this industry and over five years building an extraordinary team at our restaurant in San Mateo, I never imagined writing this.
Today I share, with a heavy but proud heart, that the City of San Mateo has officially chosen not to renew our lease. This means the restaurant will not reopen.
This business was more than a business—it was a home. A place for celebrations, comfort, and community. A place where our staff—some of whom worked in that building since it opened—showed up with heart and soul every single day.
And none of it would have been possible without you—our incredible regulars, our guests, our extended family. You brought the energy, the laughter, the stories, and the soul that made our space feel alive. The playful, welcoming vibe that filled our patio and dining room didn’t just come from our team—it was co-created with all of you. It was your presence that made non-golfers feel just as at home as the regular foursome at the turn.
The sudden closure left 61 team members without jobs. I’ve spent months fighting for justice, and I will continue that fight. We are moving forward with a lawsuit against the City for the negligence and decisions that dismantled a place we all loved deeply.
To our guests, clients, friends, and staff: thank you for believing in what we created. Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives. You made this more than a restaurant—you made it a "Cheers" We’ll carry that love forward, and I hope you will too.
I want to Thank Mel for being our offical historianand creating this video for me. You are the best!
