During the first portion of the Summer 2026 San Luis Obispo Music & Arts Festival, we are proud to present the Festival Mozaic โ€œYoung Artist String Quartet.โ€ This is the second year of our Young Artist Program, a groundbreaking initiative in collaboration with the esteemed Colorado College Summer Music Festival, July 15-19.

The Young Artists will perform ๐…๐ˆ๐•๐„ *๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ž๐ž* ๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐ข-๐œ๐จ๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ซ๐ญ๐ฌ at local libraries and the program will culminate in a ๐’‡๐’–๐’๐’-๐’๐’†๐’๐’ˆ๐’•๐’‰ ๐‘ช๐’๐’Ž๐’Ž๐’–๐’๐’Š๐’•๐’š ๐‘ช๐’๐’๐’„๐’†๐’“๐’• in SLO, in which the Young Artists will be joined in performance by their mentors, Scott Yoo and Bion Tsang.

Grateful to have the support and partnership with the County of SLO Public Libraries and the SLO County Library Foundation, we are thrilled to welcome Dexter Doris, Dylan Hamme, Aliza Creel, and Gabriella McClellan to San Luis Obispo County!

On Saturday, August 1 at the Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo, Scott Yoo will lead the Festival Mozaic Orchestra in a thrilling finale concert of the 2026 San Luis Obispo Summer Music & Arts Festival. Earl Kim's Cornet opens the program, featuring guest actor Malcolm in the Middle's Jane Kaczmarek as narrator. Following this is Rachmaninoff's second piano concerto, one of the composer's most enduringly popular works, with โ€œone of the greatest pianists of our timeโ€ (Bachtrack) Sergei Babayan as soloist. After intermission is Brahms's second symphony, a piece in many moods that ultimately ends with an exuberant finale.

Our Notable Insights are such a great way to learn more about a piece before hearing it in concert. These events make the piece so accessible and tangible for both beginners or classical music buffs alike. The fourth and final in our series this summer is ๐๐จ๐ญ๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ž ๐ˆ๐ง๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ: ๐ƒ๐ฏ๐จ๐ซฬŒ๐šฬ๐ค on July 30, in advance of the finale Chamber Concert 5 on July 31st.

The SLO Movement Arts Center will once again join forces with Festival Mozaic for this beloved family-friendly performance of ๐‘ช๐’‚๐’“๐’๐’Š๐’—๐’‚๐’ ๐’๐’‡ ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐‘จ๐’๐’Š๐’Ž๐’‚๐’๐’” by French composer Camille Saint-Saรซns. Local dancers bring each animal to life through movement and choreography while the Festival Mozaic Orchestra performs this whimsical musical masterpiece live on stage.

Festival Mozaic is proud to present the ๐‘ ๐‘’๐‘๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘‘ ๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘›๐‘ข๐‘Ž๐‘™ ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐  ๐€๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ฆ, a groundbreaking initiative in collaboration with the esteemed Colorado College Summer Music Festival (CCSMF).

A small group of students was selected to form the Festival Mozaic โ€œYoung Artist String Quartet.โ€ They will travel to the SLO Music & Arts Festival to participate in chamber music coachings and community outreach events during the first portion of the Festival, July 15-19. We are thrilled to welcome Dexter Doris, Dylan Hamme, Aliza Creel, and Gabriella McClellan.

During that time the Young Artists will perform ๐…๐ˆ๐•๐„ *๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ž๐ž* ๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐ข-๐œ๐จ๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ซ๐ญ๐ฌ at our local County of San Luis Obispo Public Libraries guided by mentors Scott Yoo and Bion Tsang. The program will culminate in a ๐’‡๐’–๐’๐’-๐’๐’†๐’๐’ˆ๐’•๐’‰ ๐‘ช๐’๐’Ž๐’Ž๐’–๐’๐’Š๐’•๐’š ๐‘ช๐’๐’๐’„๐’†๐’“๐’• on July 19 at the Harold J. The next Notable event is the summer series is at a new venue! On July 28, join us at Cayucos Landing! Formerly known as the Cayucos Veteranโ€™s Hall, we are thrilled to visit this beautifully restored oceanfront landmark and the cornerstone of the Cayucos communityโ€™s historic and cultural identity.

John Novacek, 2024 Artist-in-Residence, and the Festival Artists will take you on a โ€œmuseum docentโ€™s tourโ€ of John's original string octet Music for 8. John will guide you through the piece, his compositional techniques and style, and lead the ensemble in performing some selections.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about this piece before it receives its California Premiere performance on July 29 at Chamber Concert 4 taking place at Mission San Luis Obispo!
