happy monday sweets! tis with heavy heart we report this is likely the last week for the tomato sandwich for the season. the chills, light rains, and spikes in temp through the region mean less variety and smaller sizing on the tomatoes were seeing and procuring, so shy of a good report in the coming days, our last delivery will be tomorrows batch. so come thru the final hurrah of this delicious decadence, and get introduced to some of our new fall and winter faves. see you soon!

fall is coming thru in a big way, as stone fruits given way to pears and apples, hedge fruits to nuts and squash before the onslaught of winter citrus. and the return of the winter squash & olive oil cake is one of those calls. long island pie squash roasted down to puree with kashmiri chai spices and maple syrup, whole grain patwin flour and TCHO Chocolate “real fruity” chocolate giving way to a coat of olive oil and maple glaze topped with toasted pepitas. a fall into decadence, truly.

this is andy of Mariquita Farm. he and his wife julia are some of the OG bay area organic farmers who have been doing the work for some time (andy’s family have farmed in watsonville for four-ish generations). andy can talk your ear off about everything from citrus grafts to mesoamerican plant biology to farm trends of the last 50 years and we love it because it gives deprh to of the person and theie work. we try several times a season to do tomato pickups outside Piccino in thr Dogpatch or in Berkeley, usually snagging acouple of their Early Girls and Peniellos for saucing. Tomato sandwiches this week feature their tomatoes, a beautiful mix, and we hope you’ll check Andy & Julias work out to boot.
