Since 1975, the Irish Cultural Center has been a gathering place for Irish culture, community, and connection through education, arts, and events while preserving the history and contributions of the Irish in the San Francisco Bay Area. The United Irish Cultural Center (Irish Center) is a California nonprofit corporation organized to provide our members with beautiful dining and banquet facilities

for social, recreational, athletic and cultural activities. Just three short blocks from the magnificent Golden Gate Recreational Area at Ocean Beach, the Irish Center celebrates over 40 years of service to the Irish and Irish-American community in San Francisco. We host many functions at the Saint Patrick Ballroom and the St. Nearby attractions include the San Francisco Zoo, Harding Park Public Golf Course, Lake Merced Recreational Facility, and Golden Gate Park. What a wonderful Labor Day weekend at the Scottish Highland Gathering & Games in Pleasanton! 🇮🇪🥁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The Irish Pipers of San Francisco proudly represented Irish music and tradition throughout the weekend, with the added joy of seeing three generations of the O’Leary family participate.

A special congratulations to the youngest O’Leary, Derry O’Leary, who was invited to take part in the closing ceremonies as the Games’ youngest drummer. What a wonderful moment—and a glimpse of the next generation of pipers and drummers carrying these traditions forward.

Supporting the next generation is at the heart of the UICC’s commitment to youth, music, and Irish culture. Weekly piping and drumming lessons at the UICC give young musicians the opportunity to learn, grow, perform, and become the future stewards of this important tradition.

From three generations of one family to the next generation of Irish musicians, it was a wonderful weekend to celebrate the music that connects us. ☘️🥁

Topics to be covered include: general genealogy tips, historical events that make Irish family research unique, Irish naming patterns, finding vital records, using the Irish Censuses, Griffiths Valuation of land, Petty Session Court records, Registry of Deeds, newspapers, research websites (free and fee) and much more.

The sessions will combine some history and cultural context to help you find your family information and to make sense of it.

Join us for the 16th Annual Mad Hatter Tea Party!
This popular and festive event is a fundraiser for our beloved Patrick J. Dowling Library which is staffed by volunteers who work tirelessly to promote Irish/Irish American literature, history, and culture by preserving and modernizing the collection of books, periodicals, and multimedia and by providing public access to the collection. In addition, the Dowling Library at the United Irish Cultural Center sponsors many cultural events throughout the year from art exhibits to genealogy and language presentations, from literary events to special exhibits.

Today on the anniversary of his birth, we remember the life and legacy of Rainbow Honor Walk honoree Roger Casement (September 1, 1864 – August 3, 1916).

An Irish diplomat, humanitarian, and nationalist, Casement became internationally renowned for exposing brutal abuses of Indigenous peoples in the Congo Free State and the Amazon’s Putumayo region. Later a passionate advocate for Irish independence, he was convicted of treason and executed by the British government in 1916. A gay man whose sexuality was used against him during his trial and appeals for clemency, Casement remains an enduring figure in the histories of human rights, Irish independence, and LGBTQ+ identity.
