The Independent is a premier live music venue in San Francisco that opened its doors to Bay Area music lovers in February 2004. , Vampire Weekend, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Foster the People, Miguel, Disclosure, M.I.A., The xx, Zedd, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Pretty Lights and The National. Well into their careers, superstar acts such as Green Day, The Black Eyed Peas, Phoenix, John Legend, Sonic Youth, Arctic Monkeys, Dave Chappelle and Beck have performed at our intimate 500-capacity club. Centrally located in the NOPA/Western Addition neighborhood, The Independent has state-of-the-art sound and light systems and the best venue staff in the city. The venue has become a staple for musicians, touring professionals and fans alike. Rostam Batmangli (formerly of Vampire Weekend) says of the space, “The Independent was a venue where we could connect with each person who came to see us. We played there a few times as we were coming up and each time that connection grew stronger.”
