If you liked KITSCH, you'll love ALTAR.
ALTAR is a mobile project by Nikki Mirsaeid and Taj Robinson. ALTAR seeks to locate and transform unconventional spaces into exhibition venues, highlighting the sacred nature of art, silence and breakthrough. The ALTAR network constellates the work of artists, writers, and curators from ever-expanding locales including New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Bangkok, and Beirut.
ALTAR cultivates, curates and commissions work within a rich community of artists, going beyond the established limits of the gallery environment to activate unrealized territory + alternative collaborations. Site-specificity is the main tenet of ALTAR exhibitions, targeting spaces such as an Episcopal church, a vacant gas station, an abandoned storefront, and so on.
