We must show respect and appreciation to the great Tim Curry. After originated the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in London in 1973 and playing him again in Los Angeles in 1974, he made his Broadway debut in The Rocky Horror Show in 1975 (and played the same role in the 1975 cult classic movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show). Tim Curry had several other stage credits including Travesties (1975-1976), Amadeus (1980-1983), Me and My Girl (1987-1989), My Favorite Year (1992-1993), and Spamalot (2005-2009). He received three Tony Award nominations. His favorite stage role was portraying the brilliant, high-strung, and famously giggling musician genius Mozart in Amadeus.

Can we believe The Book of Mormon opened February 24, 2011 and is now 15 years old?! The musical, created by South Park’s Trey Parker and Matt Stone with EGOT winner Robert Lopez, follows young Mormons on their first mission to Uganda. The Book of Mormon by the numbers: it is the 10th longest-running musical in Broadway history; the missionaries say “hello” 42 times in a show; there have been 3 national tours; it won 9 Tony Awards in 2011; and there are 150 costumes in one show.

In additional to all the wonderful things Dolly Parton did in her lifetime, we thank her for her contributions to Broadway and musicals. Dolly made her official Broadway debut in 2009 as the composer, lyricist and storyteller on 9 to 5: The Musical. She earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Original Score. Also, she co-wrote and produced DOLLY: A True Original Musical set to open on Broadway this fall. And we cannot forget the movie musicals The Best Little Wh******se in Texas from 1982 and Joyful Noise from 2012.

Can we just give a little love to Sydney James Harcourt? Sydney was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live last week with Rosie O’Donnell guest hosting. Let’s just say Rosie had a little infatuation with this incredible Broadway actor. Sydney is best known for playing Rum Tum Tugger in Cats: The Jellicle Ball and in 2015, was in the ensemble of Hamilton and an understudy for the Aaron Burr and George Washington characters.

Broadway musical fans will be excited to know there are some amazing new shows set for this fall and spring. Billed as an explosive collision of science and faith, truth and power, Galileo is the electrifying and emotional new Broadway musical about maverick scientist Galileo Galilei. Wanted, a soulful and dangerous new musical, is the mostly true story of Mary and Martha Clarke, sisters and outlaws on the run in Texas in 1893. Warriors, with Lin-Manuel Miranda & Eisa Davis, follows a fictitious New York City gang from Coney Island to the Bronx and back when they are framed for the murder of a respected gang leader, Cyrus.

And if you can’t wait for all those new shows, just join us tonight at the Edge for Dirty Musical Sundays. Starting at 7, we’ll be playing all the exciting Broadway moments you love.
