Very excited to announce a BRAND NEW RUM!

In October of 2024, we traveled to Main Rum Company in Liverpool to do some rum hunting. Main Rum is the primary source for most of the world’s single cask rums, with thousands of barrels from thirty-five different countries. While we tasted a few dozen (hic!), we were really only there to pick one thing…

Since first visiting in 2016, we have been enamored with the traditional Blair two column Coffey still at Long Pond Distillery in Jamaica. While Long Pond is famous for their pot still rums, this column represented a vanishing style in the Caribbean: the characterful and rich output of a smaller, less efficient column still. Subtle, nuanced, but still unmistakably Jamaican.

We’ve carried a handful of this marque (CRV) over the years, but so much of it was sold as a blending component that it rarely gets bottled by itself. Additionally, the still has been non-operational since 2009 and was in a terrible state of disrepair. Alexander Gabriel, part owner of Long Pond, had expressed an interest in restoring the still. However, that dream was forever dashed in October of 2025 when Hurricane Melissa permanently destroyed the still.

So we are thrilled to present this very special, never-to-be-replaced rum: Smuggler’s Cove Long Pond 20. The latest in our quest to select single barrels from very special stills, this one is perhaps the most special yet. Not only will it never be replaced (Main Rum has no more CRV in stock), this is the first ever barrel pick to be bottled under our own name. Aged thirteen years in ex-bourbon cask in Jamaica, then seven (nearly eight) more years in Liverpool. Bottled unfiltered and unadulterated at a cask strength of 63.21%. Only 226 bottles exist. The front label (art by Dave Stolte) pays tribute to the still itself, while the back label features details from the dilapidated control panel. Available now only at Smuggler's Cove by the pour or by the bottle. In-store only, not available to ship.

Celebrate 250 years of America's original spirit with some good rum! The Cove will be open July 3rd, closed July 4th. Have an amazing & safe holiday weekend!

The pink treat on the left is called Giant Summer, made with fresh lime, Chambéryzette strawberry vermouth and Rhum JM Blanc 55%.

Ten years ago today, Smuggler’s Cove begat a book of the same name, and we could not have imagined all the places it would take us. From kicking off a massive book tour with events around the USA, to medals from both Tales of the Cocktail and the James Beard Foundation, to it still being in print today, we’re still overwhelmed by the reception. We’ve heard so many stories over the years of how the book introduced people to the drinks and the genre and have been especially touched by the number of people who turned the book into a COVID-era project that united friends and families across zoom. If you don’t have your copy, order one today from our online store (signed and personalized!) or your favorite independent bookstore. More 10th anniversary book updates to follow later this year so stay tuned! Thank you all so much for your incredible support!

It was, by all reports, a calm night at sea as our shipment of rum made its way to port. The barrels were lashed safely to the deck as the rum inside gently rocked with the waves. At once, there was a thud against the hull below the waterline. Had they struck a rock? Silence again, then a sudden great thrashing as the ship heaved and rolled, sending the barrels tumbling overboard before. Amazingly, the ship sailed on as the crew gazed aft in shock at a furious convulsion of roiling seas, flung barrels, and…something.

Days later, the barrels washed ashore along a remote shoreline and were soon discovered by curious beachcombers. They displayed the scars of being clawed at by…something. Something that managed to smash the heads off the barrels to devour its contents. The charred oak interior now visible, only the intoxicating aroma of long-aged rum remained. But where was it from? Amazingly, the weathered bills of lading remained attached, showing its destination as the City by the Bay, but no evidence of its country of origin. Perhaps we’d never know, but now a new opportunity has arisen: Time to fill these barrels yourself!

Introducing our ALL-NEW Smuggler’s Rum Barrel - just our third ever design in seventeen years. Sculpted by the very talented Tank Standing Buffalo and made by Tiki Farm. Our barrel mug is approx. 5.25” H x 4” W and holds 20 oz. of whatever you choose! Each mug is red-glazed and hand-wiped with a second grey glaze so each mug is unique and there will be slight variations in the color and location of the second glaze. Available starting tonight at Smuggler’s Cove ($55 or $64 with our famous Rum Barrel inside!) and online ($65) at smugglerscovesf.com/store right now! Drink up and enjoy!
