I can’t possibly be alone in feasting my soul upon the wide wonder of the … fu***ng healing this World Cup seems to be visiting upon the world at large, and specifically here at home, delivering what seems like relentless doses of national therapy, a welcome reminder that we are much more than the sum of the treachery of the news makers and reporters, but humans, and largely good ones, too.

Soccer, football, isn’t my sport, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t feel like a treasure gifted to humanity in general right now … tens of thousands of Americans who can’t seem to agree upon anything whatsoever, but arms around one another singing an old John Denver song, lining up to drink with Scotsmen (what wouldn’t?), crossing fingers and praying to deities of all manner and stripe that the universe will deliver a U.S.A./England match on 4 July … I didn’t see any of this coming, but it is a tonic, and one I’ll slake my thirst with happily.

As for today, we plan on rowdily cheering on our brothers from the south, and we’d love it if you lent your voices - and f**kery - to the effort. Doors at five, screaming at 6. I like six. Six is good.

Well normally I just write too much, this time I figured I’d just be old fashioned and say too much, that’s what happens when Waterboy is out of town and unavailable to save me from myself.

The sudden mischief, Matty shows us how to make it!

I’ll need to break down some simple math for you. Judas Goat = Great Cocktail. Matty’s Joke = well, he’s an awfully good friend. Sometimes s**t must be overlooked.

Ingredients made in house, from scratch. Matt talks about our house-made tepache.

Banana golden milk, white rum, and lime, the Now & Then is the perfect early summer cocktail.

I walked into this place first time a couple of weeks ago, literally kicking the sidewalk and complaining like the child I am that it was a month before an upcoming trip to Mexico and all the goodness contained therein … walked into this little brutalist courtyard and started laughing, felt like a wee little corner of CDMX right there down the hill in that fu***ng Barrio.

Alchemy, tucked away down the hill, I cannot recommend it enough, the food is incredible, the cocktails worthy of strong comment, and the staff is, well, they’re fu***ng hospitable, professional, human, and very obviously dumping their fu***ng guts into the place.

They’ve got my vote, all around … and happily, this Memorial Day, we’ll all get a chance to sample their goods here at CP. Eduardo, the owner, actually from CDMX, is going to come cook for us, hopefully have some cocktails with us, and I am positive laugh with us - we share the sentiment that it’s the very best thing to do, laugh.

Mark it down, come spend some time with us, and them, and get your asses down there when you can. It is fu***ng delightful.

How to make the Back Story, one of the new additions to our cocktail menu!

Christine Quillen, otherwise known as the keeper of the portal to all the goodness in the world, would be your best friend if you came in for a pint of the MBC pineapple wheat. It is a surprising ray of summertime, and at $6 per, can you really afford not to? Every one is, metaphorically speaking, a mile closer to island time for her, and I can’t think of a human who deserves all good things more.

Happy Hump Day, people, let’s roll over it like it isn’t there, and down the other side the carefree part of the week, and then do our parts by giving zero f***s, the contemporary and more scatological way to say the same thing, carefree, without care or concern, well beyond the province of having the energy to give a single rusty f**k. Let us go there and stay, please.

Warm weather, and new spring cocktails.
Cheers!
