To My Beloved Bistro Family,
It’s with a heavy heart that I have to let you know that I’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to close Bistro Sixty & San Diego Desserts.
For 19 years we’ve called the El Cerrito neighborhood home and welcomed so many of you like family.
We wanted to build a place where eating felt like you were joining us in our home. A warm, comfortable environment with incredible food, wine and local music. We hope you feel we achieved that.
It’s no secret that the restaurant business has changed so much in the last several years. We’ve seen so many long standing San Diego favorites close—even recently. Unfortunately, we’re not immune to the same factors that have impacted them.
The economics for this business have just reached a point where the Bistro is no longer viable. We’ve explored cutting corners, and just feel that it’s best to go out on a high note, rather than to become something that doesn’t fit our spirit and vision.
This has been your baby from the first day we opened in 1999. You helped us create the vision for a restaurant and wine bar where everyone knows your name, strangers are always welcome, and neighborhood bonds and lifelong friendships are made. And for that I'll always be grateful.
While this is an extremely difficult and emotional time, know that we’ve enjoyed every moment of these past 19 years with you. And wouldn’t trade any of them for the world.
So we (and you) can say our farewells in person, we will still be open for:
-- Lunch & Dinner today, Friday, July 6th
-- Brunch and Dinner on Saturday & Sunday, July 7th & 8th.
As a final farewell, we’re hosting one “last hurrah” on Monday night, July 9th starting at 5pm. We’ll do a fixed price of $40/person for food—and we’ll have a full spread. And every glass of wine will be just $10.00.
We’ll also do our final Wine Garage Sale with all bottles left in stock at $15.00 each, or a case of 12 for $120. We also hope to have some of your (and our) favorite local musicians with us Monday as well.
No reservations are necessary for Monday, but we do recommend you make a reservation to join us tonight or through the weekend. We want to be sure to have a place for you.
Also note, that as part of our closing procedures, we have had to suspend all points transactions, so points can no longer be earned or redeemed from rewards cards.
While I’m closing this chapter with you all on Monday night, I promise I’ll keep you posted on what the next chapter holds.
With my sincerest thanks for 19 great years,
Mark
