If you walk out the back door of Künstler, you're only about ten steps from the railroad tracks.
Before we started building out the brewery, before the walls were insulated, every freight train rattled the old warehouse so loudly I'd often wonder if this was the one that would come through the building.
Eventually, the rumble became something we looked forward to.
We'd stop what we were doing and watch. We may have flattened a penny or two along the way. We definitely spent more than a few afternoons trying to capture the perfect photo of the trains.
There's something about them.
They make you wonder where they've been, where they're going, and who's waiting at the other end. While we're standing here watching the last wagon disappear, someone else is watching that very same train arrive.
They carry adventure, possibility, and sometimes even a little longing.
That's how Hop Train got its name.
Whenever I see Hop Train, I can't help but picture one of those freight cars rolling past, filled to the brim with hops, spilling over the sides as it heads down the tracks.
It's a tribute to the trains that rumble just beyond our back door, delight the kids playing in the Bier Garten, and have become part of the rhythm of life at Künstler.
Every beer has a story.
This one just happens to come with its own soundtrack.
