🎶 SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17TH — A VERY SPECIAL NIGHT AT BOWMAN BACKYARD! 🎶

We are thrilled to welcome KIMMIE RHODES & GABRIEL RHODES for an intimate evening of incredible songwriting, stories, and music under the Texas stars! ✨

If you aren’t familiar with these two, their musical history is something pretty special!

🌟 KIMMIE RHODES is a true Texas treasure! Raised in Lubbock, Kimmie began singing at just six years old in her family’s gospel trio. Her remarkable career has spanned more than four decades, taking her from the Texas music scene to stages around the world.

A longtime friend and collaborator of Willie Nelson, Kimmie recorded her first album at Willie’s Pedernales Studio at his invitation. Her songs have been recorded by an extraordinary list of artists, including Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Emmylou Harris, Trisha Yearwood, Wynonna Judd, Amy Grant, and Peter Frampton, just to name a few!

Her acclaimed album West Texas Heaven featured duets with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Townes Van Zandt. In 2023, she was inducted into the West Texas Walk of Fame, recognizing her contributions to Texas music.

🎸 GABRIEL RHODES is an incredibly accomplished musician in his own right! An Austin-based guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer, Gabriel has worked with some of the most respected names in Americana and country music, including Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver, Waylon Jennings, Ray Price, and Emmylou Harris.

Beyond his exceptional guitar playing, Gabriel has produced numerous recordings, including projects with his mother, bringing his own musical creativity and artistry to their longtime collaboration.

❤️ And here’s what makes this evening even more special — Kimmie and Gabriel are mother and son!

Their years of making music together bring a connection to the stage that goes far beyond the songs themselves.

This is exactly the kind of evening we love hosting at Bowman Backyard — legendary musical history, exceptional talent, and the opportunity to experience it all up close in a listening-room setting.

Storytelling has been an anchor of Lee’s music since the very beginning. He launched his career as a genre-bending musician after returning to Tennessee, quickly progressing from dive bar gigs to high-profile opening slots (including shows with Jason Isbell, Los Lobos, and other artists who, like him, blurred the lines between roots-rock, country, and other forms of American folk music) to his own headlining shows. Throughout it all, he drew upon the narrative skills he’d sharpened as a student. If albums like Honky-Tonk Hell and The Hometown Kid often unfolded like autobiographical entries from his road journal, then Drink the River shows an even broader range of his storytelling abilities. Lee isn’t just writing songs about himself; he’s writing songs about all of us. And maybe, in doing so, he can bring us a little closer together.

HEAT IS HERE! 🔥☀️

“Heat” has a uniquely grassroots origin. The song began in 2023 as a social media songwriting project, I invited fans to submit words and ideas for a song about surviving the Texas heat. The response helped shape the early concept and rough draft.
Fast forward to 2025, I revisited the song, with co-writer Victoria Camp contributing tweaks that helped transform the early concept into the finished track.
The result is a gritty, unapologetic anthem about a woman who can handle just about anything, but maybe not a Texas summer.
Driven by a heavy guitar riff and a surreal bridge that transports the listener into a heat induced fever dream, “Heat” is built for the kind of volume that makes the windows shake. It’s raw, swaggering, and distinctly Texas, capturing the heat, attitude, and restless energy at the heart of my sound.
It’s gonna be hot this weekend, yall. Crank this one up and let me know if you love it!!

Credits and thanks to:

Kelby Dru who also helped and brought the mirage idea into the song. And then of course she got this song out to yall. Forever grateful.

As we close out our Spring 2026 season, our hearts are full of gratitude. ❤️

This has truly been our best season yet, and it would not have been possible without two very special groups of people: the incredible artists who share their talents with us and the amazing patrons who fill the Backyard with energy, enthusiasm, and support.

To the artists—thank you for trusting us with your music, your stories, and your craft. We know firsthand that making a living in today’s music industry is not easy. We are honored to provide a space where original music is celebrated and where every ticket sold goes directly to support the artists who create it.

To our guests and supporters—thank you for showing up, buying tickets, bringing friends, and helping us build this unique listening community. Your support allows these artists to continue doing what they love, and it allows Bowman Backyard to continue doing what we love.

While we’re sad to see the Spring 2026 season come to an end, we’re already looking forward to what comes next. We’ll have a short Fall 2026 season, but we’re especially excited as we begin gearing up for Spring 2027—a milestone year as we celebrate 10 years and more than 100 shows in the Backyard! 🎉

We have lots of exciting ideas, special events, and surprises in the works, and we can’t wait to share them with you.

In the meantime, we’d love to hear from you…
🎶 Who would you like to see perform in the Backyard? 🎶

Thank you all for being part of this incredible journey. Here’s to the next chapter!
