An Important Update from Our Family: A Fond Farewell to Dashi (大师)
To the San Antonio Community, Our Friends, and Family,
It is with a heavy heart and profound gratitude that we share an important update. We have made the incredibly difficult decision to cease operations at Dashi Chinese Kitchen + Bar, effective immediately. Decisions like this are never easy. Dashi was a dream realized—a vibrant space dedicated to bringing bold, modern, and expansive Chinese flavors to San Antonio.
As you know, Dashi (大师) means Grand Master. We chose this name because a restaurant is a collaboration between all the moving parts of the arts — what you see, what you smell, what you hear, what you taste, what you feel. We sought to do that, and we did. We are immensely proud of the experiences we shared and the community we built together.
To our loyal guests and supporters: Thank you for embracing Dashi. Thank you for filling our dining room with energy, sharing your milestones with us, and exploring new culinary horizons alongside us.
To the incredible Dashi team, past and present: You were the heartbeat of this restaurant. Your passion, artistry, and unwavering commitment to hospitality brought the vision of the Grand Master to life every single day. We are forever grateful for your hard work and the family we created. Our team has been given employment opportunities at Sichuan House and elsewhere.
To our partners and families: Thank you for your foundational support and unwavering belief in our vision.
The Journey Continues
Our time at this location has come to an end, but our journey is not over. While the physical location of Dashi is closing, the spirit of collaboration and creativity continues on. We are making the strategic decision to focus our resources on the concepts that will define our next decade. We warmly invite you to continue this journey with us:
Sichuan House: Our beloved flagship restaurant remains open and dedicated to delivering the authentic, soulful flavors and community connection we cherish. Thank you, San Antonio. We appreciate your ongoing support and we hope to see you at Sichuan House soon.
Southtown Garden & Event Space: We are energized by our new space at 1127 S. St Mary's. This venue will be a hub for community gatherings, private celebrations, and the important work of our nonprofit, the Ciao & Zen Collective. It is here that Dashi’s spirit of global connection and collaboration truly evolves, as we build cultural bridges through the culinary arts.
With deepest gratitude,
Kristina Zhao, Brandon La Lanne, and the Teams at Sichuan House & The Ciao & Zen Collective
