.To say the last year and a half has been hard would be an understatement.
We vividly remember closing the doors to our pubs during the beginning of the pandemic- the quiet in the city, the sinking feeling moving into the unknown, and our concern for our families, our teams and our community.
We remember the little window of possibility that opened when we received support through PPP and FEMA funding. We were able to make lunches and dinner for the elderly and SCUSD school children who needed it in such a tough time.
Then Snug Jr took form and brought a lot of joy to Sacramento through simple, yet well-made comfort food. We were blessed to keep our team employed.
As we continued to hand out to-go bags full of happiness, we waited patiently to be able to reopen our namesake Pub.
The time finally came for the pub to shine once again, and we gave the Sacramento location a remodel and our Davis pub a fresh coat of paint. There was excitement in the air, and a fresh start feeling. We were buzzing.
While the last few months since opening have felt like a homecoming, we haven’t been able to dig ourselves out of the hole that the pandemic created. When looking ahead to the future, we may not ever get back to where we were pre-pandemic.
With the heaviest of hearts we announce the closing of our pub. We will remain open until end of service on October 3rd.
We have spent countless hours with our family, looking at this from every angle, and although the decision seemed almost impossible to make, we are now reminiscing and remembering all of the magic that is de Vere’s Irish Pub. de Vere’s has always been about the people. It’s about the people who met and fell in love, some who were later married by Henry. It’s about the class reunions and retirement parties, the baby showers, Sunday brunches with friends, and the wakes for our dear lost loved ones.
de Vere’s has been about helping people in our community through our philanthropic efforts, like the epic events and Kylee Lillich Charitable Giving Tree golf tournaments, that raised millions to help fight childhood cancer and provide holiday cheer to children in need. We had partnerships with the arts, live music, and who could forget the best St. Patrick’s Day shenanigans Sacramento has ever seen, complete with Sacramento Firefighters Pipes and Drums! We will never forget the 4pm New Year’s toast to Ireland, the Liverpool and World Cup matches, Whiskey Wednesdays, and Monday Night Trivia with Chris.
The pub was also our home away from home- home to family birthday parties, anniversaries, family gatherings, and our children’s voices echoing through the pubs, first as newborn babies, and later as boisterous big kids, helping to bus tables, greet guest at the door and skillfully ordering their granny White’s famous Shepherd’s Pie. For us, the pub will always remind us of the faces of our parents, our brothers and sisters, and all of you- friends who turned into family over the years.
Thank you so much Sacramento for 14 years of memories. We wouldn’t trade any of it for the world.
