đź’” A Texas state trooper left for work Wednesday morning.
He never came home to his wife and two little boys.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says 27-year-old Trooper Sergio Romero was killed in the line of duty while attempting to stop a vehicle along U.S. 287 near Childress.
According to DPS, Romero was initiating a traffic stop when a semi-truck pulled out in front of his patrol vehicle. He died at the scene.
Today, a family is grieving a husband and father.
A small Texas town is grieving one of its own.
And fellow law enforcement officers across the state are mourning a young trooper whose life was centered around service.
Before joining DPS as part of Class B-2025, Romero served with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. Friends say earning the title of Texas State Trooper was a dream he worked hard to achieve.
“He was DOING IT!!!” one family friend wrote.
She described Sergio as a bright light from the small town of Estelline, Texas, someone who left a lasting impression on the people around him.
“This news has rocked me to my core.”
Looking at their family photos, it’s impossible not to think about the little moments that now mean everything.
DPS Director Colonel Freeman Martin said Romero served Texans with “courage, integrity and selfless devotion.”
A wife has lost her husband.
Two young boys have lost their father.
And Texas has lost a trooper who gave his life serving others.
