Kathrin's Biergarten

Kathrin's Biergarten Local craft beers, authentic German home-cooked meals, and extraordinary Biergarten atmosphere Welcome to Kathrin's Biergarten!
(1432)

We are Immigrants from Germany, a family-run Biergarten that offers Micro brewed beers and authentic German home-style meals. Although, we are still Germans in blood, the United States have captured our hearts, and we are happy to cheer to the American-German friendship we have experienced here. Opening "Kathrin's Biergarten" is like a dream. Creating a place for people who know that a beer is no

t just a drink to quench one's thirst, or fluid food, or fermented mash or a breakfast drink. As bold as this statement might sound, but it can be put as simple as this: Beer is culture! The German abstract noun "Gemuetlichkeit" has been adopted into English. If one doesn't know what that means, and googles it, one will find numerous pages explaining it, AND - if one clicks on images- you'll get pictures of German Biergarten scenes, permented by Gemuetlichkeit. And that is what "Kathrin's Biergarten" will offer you - exactly what makes a beer even more beautiful - the sense of "Gemuetlichkeit". It's more than outstanding beers and great food - you'll experience the atmosphere of a wonderful beer craft community - you'll be part of that culture.

It's so cool that the final warm-up match before the World Cup for both the United States and Germany will be against each other!

Whoever is in charge of the soccer schedule and put USA versus Germany on 06/06/2026 though well, what can I say? Thankfully, it will be a different kind of battle!

Will be hopefully a great game. It starts at 11:30am, so we will be opening at 11:00am.
Frühschoppen , beer for breakfast :-)

Prost and happy Wednesday everyone!

Pre-election Tuesday today. Fun!
I honestly don’t care (nor do I ever ask) what party someone belongs to when they ask for a big reservation, even when I know that reservation will have a political agenda. I simply don’t care though. As long as everyone “is civil”, don’t attack people who think differently, and we can either avoid to interact, or have a dialogue where we can exchange the viewpoints (worse case agree to disagree), all is good. I believe, that behind every person regardless the skin color, culture, gender, race, income level, etc. is a human person with his own needs, wants, dreams, and wishes. A person that fights their own battle and does what is possible for them within their opportunities. Have your political opinion but be kind as we all fighting our own battles.

As a private person, I have a strong political opinion; as a restaurant owner, I try to keep out as best as I can. Republican or Democrat, I don’t judge anyone, and everyone is welcomed at the Biergarten, and deserves to have a good German beer and food.

As a small business owner, there is no way around working with the city. I engage more with the city of Rocklin (deal with them/they with me) than as I engage with the city of Roseville where I am a resident: with the fire department, health department, police department, city development, code enforcement, campaign kickoff events, with the Sergeant of the Placer County Culinary Jail program,…
Some regulations of the city make me facepalm (you know my weird German logic), but I have made nothing but great experiences with the City of Rocklin.
I also couldn’t care less what party our City Councils are in. I care how they treat us small business owners. I became “closer” to Bill Halldin and Dave Bass, as they continuously throughout all the years, kept stopping by, supported, checked on us, trying to help if there was a problem. To me, it feels very authentic, believable, showing in acts what they are talking about: Supporting small businesses! THIS personal effort, creating real connections, seeing their faces, their smiles behind the email address,…is what’s makes me supporting a candidate – even if I don’t know his/her party.
I support David Bass today, mainly because he never disappointed me and my business – and also because he stopped by on his birthday with his lovely wife who shares the same name as I – to enjoy a good beer with me (picture; I did think that was very sweet of them- no agenda; just wanted to enjoy a German beer on a special day).

Sean Frame (State Senate candidate) who certainly supports us too, and enjoys German beers (but I don’t really “work” with him) will have his election watch “party” tonight in the back (game room/brewmaster) -as a heads up. Just please remember – we all have different opinions, but your voice and thirst matter!
Don’t forget to vote today, and then don’t forget to have a good beer.
Today, it’s once again Prost to the voices of the Americans. No matter what you vote for, voting shows one thing: that we still care, still hope, and have not forgotten that sometimes even one small voice can make a difference!
Happy Tuesday everyone!

Look what is finally back!!!
My beloved Rothaus - the only beer we have that isn't pasteurized (it was out for many many weeks as they switched the distributor).

The Rothaus Pils Tannenzäpfle has existed since 1956—so for 70 years. The Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus is a brewery owned by the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Rothaus, at the Northern edge of the village of Grafenhausen in the Southern beautiful Schwarzwald (Black Forest), is one of Germany's most successful and profitable regional breweries. It is well known as a "cult beer" throughout Germany. Tannenzäpfle literally means "little fir cone"; the labels of the bottles are printed with an image of "Biergit Kraft", a blonde girl in traditional regional dress holding two glasses of beer. Biergit's name is a pun; in the local dialect of Alemannic German, "Bier git Kraft", ("Bier gibt Kraft") means "beer gives you strength" (it does…really as most of you know).

Prost and happiest Friday everyone!!
(Special this weekend is Sauerbraten; soup is Spargelcremesuppe).

"Guten Appetit" is a German phrase meaning "Enjoy your meal," used to wish someone a good appetite before they eat, similar to the French "Bon appétit". It's a common, polite expression that literally means "good appetite".

It's like saying "Prost" before you drink.

Everything tastes better when you don't rush through it. Take the two seconds to get ready to be about to enjoy something good.

Prost, guten Appetit and happy Sunday everyone! :-)

As I posted before – we Germans are obsessed with white asparagus. It’s harder to get here, so it always feels like a blessing if we do.
It wasn't until the 16th century that European royalty started eating asparagus. Since it was time and work consuming (unlike green asparagus, you need to peel it) and not that common, asparagus was very expensive. It was therefore also called "Weißes Gold" (White Gold). While many farmers started growing asparagus in the 19th century, it wasn't until the 20th century that 'normal' people could afford asparagus.
Special this weekend: White asparagus pasta salad, chicken breast, cheese with a honey lemon vinaigrette.

And: Spargelcremesuppe.
If you like white asparagus – BEST soup ever! Seriously.

Guten Appetit, Prost and happy, happy Saturday everyone!

From helping out as a dishwasher at night, to being a guest speaker at a business class at Woodcreek Highschool in the morning.
I understand the challenge of Highschoolers to figure out what they want to do with their lives, what to study. It's much tougher now with all the AI than it used to be.

And one one the kids asked me what keeps me motivated running a restaurant.......well, exactly THIS!
The community, the diversification, the support, the solidarity,....- never a dull moment, there is always something.
AI can't replace real human connections.

Love being a part of the community with my little German Island, and explaining to our youth that as brutal as this industry is, there is no better one for me.

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday! Prost, guten Appetit, and a big thank you to all teachers who are taking care of our children, which certainly isn't the easiest industry either.
Happy Friday!

New round of specials is up.

I was super nervous when I looked up who is playing on Father's Day, but we are lucky: neither the USA nor Germany!

We will be open for all Germany and USA games. So far it's only June 14th where they play outside our regular openings (Germany plays at 10am, so we will be open for beer for breakfast at 9:30am).

Plan ahead :-)

Prost and happy Thursday everyone!

We just had some early visitors. Sorry guys, we are not open yet, and we are DOG friendly. Hear that?! I said dog friendly.
You need to stay outside.

Open 11:30am today. Beautiful day. Bring your dog, and enjoy a beer. Prost and happy Wednesday everyone!

When I got my last baby in 2013 (picture), I knew I was done with children - I had my four-leaf clover!

Who would have known I open 4 years later a Biergarten, and get like 25 more children?! ;-)

We may be old, not as beautiful as the others, more tired as others, but we always power through. We know there is no such thing as calling in sick, that there is never a time out, there is no quitting. As hard as the work in the restaurant is, there is no harder job than being a mom. But also no more beautiful job!

Cheers to all mom's; and God bless our children! Happy Mother's Day!!

(last day of our special:
Weisser Spargel (White asparagus - also called "Weißes Gold" (White Gold).

Prost and happy Sunday!

End of WW II: In the middle of the pic, you can see an official “Urlaubs- Karte” (permission to leave the company/unit). Opa went home to his wife and 3 girls (Sept. 1944). On April 28th 1945, he got wounded by a shrapnel. Despite amputation of his leg, he died torturous in a POW military hospital on Russian ground July 6th, 1945.
The news that my Oma gave birth to an healthy and the long sought for son and heir on May 5th never was never received by him. My Oma always said that my Papa was the angle of peace as on his day the war in Hamburg (where they lived) ended, and 3 days later, it was official for whole Germany.
As hard as life was for my Oma, without that little paper of leave unit, my father wouldn’t be here, nor would I nor my children, nor our Biergarten 🙂
I booked a trip with the family for July to see him (and him to get to see the grandkids), but looks like my family goes once again without me (too much going on at the Biergarten); I probably need to cancel my flight. He needs to live many many more years, so we can see each other one more time.
Happy 81st Birthday to my Papa: Open 4pm today. Prost to health and family!
