SUP Racers to Descend on Lincolnville
LINCOLNVILLE, Maine (August 4th 2013) - Last minute preparations are under way as world class SUP racers get ready to head to Lincolnville Saturday for the first annual Lobster SUP Cup. SUP, or Stand Up Paddleboard, has exploded in popularity in recent years, becoming one of the fastest growing outdoor sports on the planet.
The Lobster SUP Cup will feature a day long technical clinic on Friday by Olympic gold medalist and pro paddler Larry Cain, and a 2 day race that starts in Rockport Harbor on Saturday morning and finishes in Belfast harbor late Sunday afternoon, a route of over 25 miles.
“The Maine coast offers some of the highest quality paddling available anywhere in the world, especially for adventure paddlers. The Lobster SUP Cup is a great opportunity to showcase the area to some of the best athletes in the sport.” said Thor Emory, race organizer. Emory is also the owner of Thorfinn Performance SUP, a company that specializes in outfitting and training paddlers for adventure racing throughout New England.
The race will also be benefitting a great cause, serving as a fundraiser to benefit Operation Rebound, a sports and fitness program for veterans with permanent physical disabilities. That connection was a big attraction for one of Emory’s sponsors; Rockport based sports nutrition company Q5. According to Q5 founder Bill Thomas, “When Thor told us about his plans for working with Operation Rebound, I knew right away that we had to help support him however we could.”
